Best Family Halloween Board Games

Disclosure - we received the games below for the purpose of this post. Any thoughts, opinions and photographs are our own. This post contains affiliate links.

October is finally here and I am now allowed to get in spooky mode as I start to decorate the house for Halloween. October is one of my favourite months as it starts the countdown to Halloween, Fireworks and then Christmas. We are always so busy filled with days out around this time of year so it's nice to have time at home chilling watching movies and playing board games together. We have a lovely collection of board games and these are our best family Halloween board games that are perfect for perfect for the spooky season including Disney's Villainous, Hocus Pocus and Ghosted.

a selection of best family halloween board games

Disney Villainous

Disney's Villainous

Disney's Villainous is a great choice of board game to get you in a spooky mood. The game has six main characters to choose from Captain Hook, Maleficent, Jafar, Ursula, Queen of Hearts and Prince John.

Each character comes with their own guide. You need to use your characters guide to to learn their objectives and goals.and the guide will help you come up with strategies and tips to come up with an evil plan to win.

We found the instructions really easy to understand. So far I have played with 3 characters Ursula, Queen of Hearts and Jafar. As each character is completely different they each have their own strategies on how to win making it different for the player each time.

In the box you’ll find 6 Boards, 6 Villain Movers, 180 Villain Cards, 90 Fate Cards, 84 Tokens, 1 Cauldron, 6 Reference Cards, 6 Villain Guides, and Instructions.

Although this is a Disney branded game you don't have to be a Disney fan to enjoy the game. It is suitable for 2-6 players and recommend age is 10+.

disney hocus pocus board game

Disney's Hocus Pocus

You must play together during this game to protect Salem’s children and stop the Sanderson sisters from completing their wicked potion before the sun rises.

Follow the step by step rule book to learn how to play potion ingredients, match all the colors or ingredients. Binx will offer a helping hand, while Winifred, Mary, and Sarah cast spells to thwart your plans. Use tricks like Burning Rain of Death and Billy Butcherson to help you along the way!

Halloween is definitely the perfect time to play Hocus Pocus especially with the release of Hocus Pocus 2 on Disney+. We did have to play this game a few times before we fully understood the rules.

Each game comes with one cauldron board, 50 Ingredient cards, a Witch board, 13 Spell cards, a Sun token, 4 trick tokens, a rulebook, and one black cat Binx.

Hocus Pocus Board Game is suitable for those aged 8+ and for 2-6 players.

zombie kittens card game

Zombie Kittens

This pack is perfect for fans of exploding kittens card game. Zombie Kittens gives the game an undead twist on the original Exploding Kittens. Zombie Kittens will keep every player involved in the game, dead or alive, until the very end. The last player alive wins.

Once each player has their cards play continues clockwise giving each player the chance to play cards from their hand to determine their next move. Once completed they must then pick up a card from the deck and hopefully avoid the exploding kitten card. Don't worry if you do as you may not be dead for long, you can use a zombie kittens card or hope another player resurrects you from the grave.

There are so many ways to play Zombie Kittens. Depending how confident you are with the game you can start off basic and build up so you're playing a more complex game. You can also combine this with Exploding Kittens card packs to increase the number of players and fun.

Each pack contains 61 cards and an instruction manual. Suitable for 2-5 players aged 7+.
ghosted board game

Ghosted

You’ve come to an untimely end, been offed, put to rest, kicked the bucket, fatally finished. You've been GHOSTED! Your restless spirit won’t be calm until you solve your own demise from the great beyond. Identify which suspect had it in for you, what wacky weapon they used, and why they wanted you out of the picture. Be the first to figure it out in this spirited game of Boo-Dunnit!

Roll the dice to find out what question you can ask any other player to help you use the power of elimination and find out who killed you and why. You can use your dry wipe marker and board to help you log the answers and when you're confident and you know who done it then you can go in for a guess. If you're right you won the game but if you're wrong you will be eliminated.

Ghosted is similar to other 'Who Done It?' games however each player has their own killer, motive and weapon.

6 x evidence boards, 36 x cards, 1 x die, 6 x markers, 6 x tokens and 1 x instructions guide. Instructions were really easy to follow and the game is suitable for those aged 10+ and ideally 3-6 players.

These are just a few of our best family halloween board games and we can't wait to add to our collection this year. Do you have any recommendations?

Hocus Pocus 2 - Perfect Movie For Halloween

It's been over 29 years almost down to the day, but the witches are back, and there's hell to pay. Your wretched little lives have all been cursed because of all the witches working, they're the worst. They'll put and a spell on you and you will be glad they did. Hocus Pocus 2 debuted on 30th September 22 on Disney+ and it was definitely worth the wait. It's definitely the perfect movie for Halloween.

Hocus pocus party

Hocus Pocus 2 is set in Salem, 29 years after the first movie. It's All Hallows Eve and Salem is as busy as ever with a Halloween festival taking place that evening. It's also Beccas 16th birthday and along with her friend Izzy they do like to dabble in a little bit of witchcraft.  Gilbert the owner of the magic shop gives his regular customer Becca a gift to help her celebrate. As Becca and Izzy head to the forbidden woods their friend Cassie (the mayors daughter) is hosting a party without their fathers permission.

What looked like an innocent candle was actually 'the black flame candle' and once lit Becca and Izzy brought back The Sanderson Sisters, Mary, Sarah and Winnifred. Will this be The Sanderson Sisters last attempt of gaining eternal youth and immortality and if they do, at what cost?

I am always a little nervous when movies such as Hocus Pocus announce a sequel. Hocus Pocus is such an iconic popular movie even after almost three decades. It's our go to movie for Halloween and I wasn't sure if Hocus Pocus 2 would live up to the original. One thing I was excited about was that it was the original cast. I don't think anyone could replace Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler, and they probably wouldn't want to. Imagine trying to fill those shoes!

Before we watched it there were already some reviews popping up on line and seeing 2/5, 'far from bewitching' and a rotten tomatoes score of 61% I was even more nervous. We had all agreed to watch it together as a family. I had prepared a cinema at home evening which the boys love and I really wanted it to be good and for us all not to be disappointed. We weren't. We all loved it. It's such a great movie for Halloween with a decent storyline and an ending that was just everything and more. We laughed and I cried and I'm so glad Kathy, Sarah and Bette agreed to return as The Sanderson Sisters.

Did you watch Hocus Pocus 2? What did you think?  Leave us a comment below and let us know.

5 Essentials To Pack For A Disney Holiday

Disclosure - This is a collaborative post. All thoughts for this post, photos and opinions are my own.

When it comes to packing for a Disney holiday your essentials may be suitable footwear, clothes, suncream, passports and money however my packing essential list is completely different. When I pack for Disney there are five essential items I must take on a Disney holiday.

woman wearing a disney loungefly bag

Loungefly Bag
Whenever you go into a Disney park you are most certainly going to spot a Loungefly. If you don't know what a Loungefly is then it is a brand of backpacks, cross body bags, wallets and wristlets. Loungefly have collaborated with brands including Disney, Harry Potter and other TV and Film favourites.

Over the years I have collected lots of Disney Loungefly bags so it actually makes it harder for me to choose just a few to take on each Disney holiday. I will usually try and choose few bags each trip and select clothes to match the bag.

Loungefly bags are a must have for any Disney fans and if you don’t have any with you’ll be sure to pick up one or two whilst at the parks.

Disney Ears
Disney Ears are also an essential for me. Whenever we go to Disney I’m sure to be wearing a pair of ears throughout our trip. There are so many ears to choose from either from Shop Disney or you can visit Etsy or Instagram sellers who can make you custom-made ears which are usually at a cheaper price than those in the parks or shops.

Wearing ears in Disney really makes you feel part of the magic and they’re not just for grown-ups, you can also get them for little ones.

woman standing under a captain marvel statue

Disney Clothing
I personally don’t need to be in a Disney park to wear Disney clothing, most of my wardrobe is Disney branded however it is nice to wear T-shirts or Disney branded clothes when you're in a Disney park. There are so many shops that offer Disney branded clothes that are easily accessible including your local supermarkets such as Asda, Sainsburys and Tesco. Whenever I’m doing my weekly shop I will always head to the clothing section to check out what Disney clothes they have in store that week.

If it's your first trip to a Disney park or a big family holiday you may have seen families wearing personalised T-shirts and personalised hoodies to mark this occasion.

I have also Disney bounded in the past and if you are unfamiliar with Disney bounding it is choosing and wearing an outfit in the colours of one of your favourite characters. For example if Snow White is your favourite character you will want to wear blue, yellow and red outfit. Disney bounding is great for those who want to dress up, as the Disney parks do not allow adults to dress up in Disney dress up costumes so Disney bounding is the next best thing.

Disney Pins
Disney pin trading has been very popular even since big J was little. Collecting Disney pins can be a big part of your Disney holiday experience. There are many ways to collect pins. You can go to the stores and buy them, take pins that you already have or you can approach cast members wearing pin lanyards to trade.

Pin trading is such a fun thing to do and it’s nice to find out the history of some of the pins, as when you trade the cast members will always tell you when and where they got the pin.

Autograph book
Having an autograph book when you’re in Disney is a must have essential. Over the years we have waited until we’ve got into the parks to buy an autograph book but what we have found is that we usually end up rushing to a store to buy one because we have spotted a character close by. To save this stress and chaos it’s so much easier to purchase an autograph book before you go. You can actually buy official autograph books on Shop Disney however there are other places that you can get Disney branded autograph books too. I would also recommend taking a pen with you as it’s been known for Disney pens to run out quite quickly and you don’t want to get stuck without a pen whilst a character is trying to sign your autograph book.

What are your packing essentials for a Disney holiday? Leave us a comment below and let us know what you are looking forward to. Also if you are looking for more posts about Disney holidays you can check them out visiting our All Things Disney page.

Disney Pixar Lightyear Movie Review

Being huge Disney fans we were so excited when Disney announced they were making a new movie 'Lightyear'. Over the past few months we have seen small trailers for the movie and at the weekend we finally got to watch Disney Pixar’s Lightyear.  I usually don't look at reviews before we go to see a movie however some of the reviews were hard to miss as they hit social media last week. Unfortunately the reviews haven’t all been positive however I like to make my own mind up when it comes to movies and I am so glad we decided to go because we all loved it.

lightyear movie poster

If you are unsure where ‘Lightyear’ fits in to the Toy Story timeline then let me try and explain. In Toy Story Andy receives a Buzz Lightyear action figure for his birthday. What we never knew was where did Buzz come from? Was he just a random figure or was he based on something? Well when watching Lightyear we found out that Lightyear is the movie that Andy went to see way back in 1995. Buzz Lightyear merchandise was created because of the movie and that is why Andy wanted the action figure for his birthday. So Lightyear isn't a prequel to Toy Story however there are subtle nods back to the original movies.

Lightyear begins with Buzz being partnered with Alisha Hawthorne, his best friend on a special mission for space rangers. They have a really special friendship which see's them joke together and share memories of past missions. Alisha mocks Buzz constantly for recording captains logs in to the device on his arm, something we see in Toy Story when Buzz believes he's a real space ranger. Before each adventure Alisha and Buzz touch fingers and say 'To Infinity and Beyond'.

Buzz Lightyear, the movie character, is exactly the same as the Buzz figure in Toy Story. He's stubborn and believe he knows best. He constantly goes against the advice of his team and his ship’s autopilot navigator I.V.A.N. Because of his stubbornness the ship he’s flying crashes, marooning everyone on a hostile planet filled with killer vines and bugs. Buzz cannot live with his guilt so now makes it his mission to discover an energy source that will help them achieve hyperspace and get off the planet.

Can Buzz Lightyear achieve Hyperspace and if he does, at what cost? With the help of Sox a robot cat (who for me is the star of the movie) and 3 unlikely companions we see Buzz Lightyear on a space adventure which will see him come face to face with his arch enemy, Zurg and the race to finish his mission.

I would definitely recommend heading to the cinema to see Lightyear. It has a running time of 107 mins, fun for the family and ideal for fans of the character Buzz Lightyear.

Are you going to see Lightyear?  Leave us a comment below and let us know or if you have seen the movie, your thoughts. Also if you are looking for more posts about Disney you can check them out visiting our All Things Disney page. You can always keep up to date with us on our socials, give us a like on FacebookTwitter and Instagram or if this post has helped you you can Buy Us A Virtual Coffee to say thanks.

The Jungle Cruise Movie Review

Disclosure - We already have a Disney+ account through a previous collaboration. Our account has since been upgraded to include Premier Access to watch The Jungle Cruise. All thoughts, opinions and photographs are our own unless stated. This post contains affiliate links.

Friday 30th July saw the release of the new Disney movie The Jungle Cruise. It was released in both the cinema and on Disney+ Premier Access. We do usually love to head to the cinema to watch new releases however we haven't been to the cinema in over 18 months and would much rather create a cinema movie night at home these days.

Jungle Cruise

The jungle cruise ride at Magic Kingdom

Even though we are huge Disney fans, until 2017 we had no idea what The Jungle Cruise was. We boarded the cruise in the Magic Kingdom and had no idea what to expect. None of us had a clue what was happening and we left the boat feeling confused although the other passengers were thrilled and excited. There was a buzz in the air.

Now after seeing the movie The Jungle Cruise I definitely understand the ride now and know why it is so iconic.

The movie follows the story of Dr Lily Houghton and her brother MacGregor. They both head to South America in search of a skipper who can navigate a boat through the Amazon in search for a mythical tree which has flowers called 'Tears Of The Moon' which are said to have healing powers for all illnesses. They soon find Frank who offers jungle cruises to tourists. They set sail on the Amazon in search for the tree but soon realise they are not the only ones on this adventure. There are others searching for the Tears Of The Moon including long forgotten conquestadors, and as the film takes place in the time of World War I there are also soldiers in submarines looking for the same prize.
There are lots os surprises along the way, not least the story of Frank which I won't give away here.

I wasn't too sure about Emily Blunt being cast as Dr lily Houghton as she is already a popular Disney Character, Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins Returns however she does suit the role perfectly. Dwayne Johnson as Frank is a fun character full of corny jokes and I like the chemistry between him and Lily.

The movie has the same feel as Indiana Jones and also The Mummy. It's a family friendly comedy with lots of action and adventure.

Mickey and The Roadster Races and Minnie's Happy Helpers Toys

Disclosure - We were sent the products below for the purpose of this post. All thoughts, opinions and photographs are our unless stated. This post contains affiliate links.

Last week we received a huge box of goodies from The Mickey and The Roadster Races and Minnie's Happy Helpers range. We absolutely love Mickey and Minnie and already own a few of the toys as they were available to buy in America when we visited DisneyWorld in April. The toys were sent to us to help us co-host a twitter party on Thursday 10th August at 1pm, so if you want to get involved with the chance to win prizes look out for the #MickeyandMinnieToys and make sure you are following PlaydaysRunways. For now I just thought I would show you some of the range so you had an idea of what to expect on Thursday.

The first thing you will notice is just how colourful the range is. The colours are bright and bold and definitely eye catching for the little ones. The range by Flair and Just Play is aimed at 3-6 year olds and prices start at just £6.99

Set up for the tool belt was very easy. We popped in the batteries (which were included), popped it round little J's waist and he was ready to play.

The tool belt has loops and pouches to hold the tools. The drill spins when pressed and the the tool belt also includes a tyre air pressure gauge, motor oil, funnel, wrench and screw and sockets.

The Happy Helpers bag is perfect for any Minnie fan as it looks just like hers. The bag includes a lights and sounds phone, a bracelet with charms, a pretend passport and holder, pretend boarding pass and stickers.

The bag is ready to use as the batteries are included. The bag opens up and fits everything inside plus more as it is a good size.

The tool box is perfect for any wannabe Mickey. It's chunky and sturdy and includes 23 pieces which is amazing. The mallet is a favourite as is the nuts and bolts.

Ideal for mending and fixing.

The Boutique Cash Register is ideal for pretending you own your own shop. The till has a real working calculator, hand scanner, money, credit card and realistic sounds.

Again batteries are included in the box.

The shopping basket is a great addition to the Boutique Cash register. It includes play food which is well made and I know will last. Also some of the pieces can be cut in half with the knife included.

The baskets handles are also strong and again I know will last when we are playing shop.

The microphone plays the Mickey theme tune whilst the lights flash. Again includes batteries so was ready to play.

*****

What We Love

The range of toys are so bright and colourful.

Made of strong chunky plastic that will last

Batteries included which is such a relief - there is nothing worse than when your children wants to play with a toy and you need to pop the shop for batteries.

Realistic items perfect for role play

What Could Improve

Nothing, we love the range.

*****

To find out more you can visit Flair and the range of Mickey and Minnie Toys are available in most good toy shops or online at Amazon.

Don't forget to join us on August 10th for lots of fun, games and prizes. You need to use the #MickeyandMinnieToys and follow PlaydaysRunways.

Disney Pixar Cars 3 Movie Review

Last weekend we headed to our local Odeon to watch Cars 3. It's been 11 years since the first movie was released and in the 11 years since, we have been massive fans of Lightning McQueen. Big J's first cinema visit was when he was just 4 years old and we watched Cars so its odd that Little J's first ever cinema visit is when he is also 4 but he's watching Cars 3.

Disney Pixar Cars Are Back In Town

The movie Disney Cars has a special place in our hearts as it was the first movie big J ever watched at the cinema. It wasn't the first movie we went to see, that was Happy Feet. We didn't actually get in to screening for that one as he was too scared but that's another story. So Disney Cars was a part of our lives for a long time until big J grew out of the toys and the movies. It was a 'Toy Story 3' moment, you know when Woody and Buzz are preparing themselves for the attic, we packed up the cars and playsets and off to the loft they went. It's was so sad when they went up and I honestly didn't think they would see the light of day again.

What Would You Choose? #ImpossibleExperiences

If you could do anything or go anywhere in the world what would you choose? For me it would be a family holiday to Disney World in Florida. I've dreamt about going there all my life but what if I could do something even better. What if I could create #ImpossibleExperiences. Have you ever thought "I wish I could do that?' or "If I won the lottery I would...". We have all had those thoughts at some point but what would your impossible experience be?
