Is Taking The Kids To The Pool A Dad Thing To Do?

Both boys absolutely love the water and we try to take them swimming as often as we can. I probably shouldn't say we, I actually mean John takes them swimming whenever he can. I'm not fond of swimming or water if I'm honest. I don't feel confident at all and if something were to happen I don't think I would react well. I'm not quite sure where this fear has come from but I would hate the boys to pick up on it so I tend to take a step back. Don't get me wrong I will go in from time to time but if I can get out of it I will.

The boys went swimming last week and I went along to watch. Usually I stay at home and do housework but as it was part of our day out I headed to the viewing deck to watch the boys having fun.

After 10 minutes of watching them in the water I decided to get a drink. When I turned around I was shocked that the viewing area was full with women. They all looked like Mums, Aunties and Nans, there was not one man sat in the viewing area. I then looked in the pool and it was full of men with their children.

Is taking the kids swimming a dad thing to do? I have never thought about it before because my lack of taking the boys swimming comes from a fear of water but what about other mums out there? Was this just a coincidence on this particular day or are more mums taking a step back when it comes to a trip to the local pool.

I have to admit the times I have gone in I have always found it a pain when it comes to getting dressed afterwards. It just seems so much easier for the boys to get ready than me. Once I'm dry and dressed I then have to dry my hair otherwise I look like a wild woman, then the make up has to go on which is impossible when it's a thousand degrees in the changing room.

Is this one of the reasons women tend to let the men takeover? Is it just too much hassle for us women? I would love to hear your thoughts and also if you are a woman and you go in the water with the kids then I applaud you because I think you might be in the minority.
