Half Term Travel With Virgin Trains

I know a lot of my readers will be enjoying Half Term this week although up in the North of England a lot of schools enjoyed their autumn break last week. We had lots of plans for half term but as you may have read little J got a stomach bug so all our plans went on hold. However as we missed out on a week of adventures we are planning a weekend away and I can't wait. You may have read recently that John and I headed to London for the day to see Wicked The Musical. We got the train bright and early and we were in the capital in no time. I love sitting on the train knowing that we will be in a new city soon, it's now one of my favourite things to do. We are lucky to be able to get a Virgin Trains Pendolino train and it's so nice to sit back and relax and let someone else do the driving. For our next break we will be taking advantage of the Virgin Trains family ticket at a fixed price for up to 2 adults and 4 children.

Both boys love travelling and there is nothing more exciting than exploring somewhere new. I like to plan what we will do when we get to a new place. I research the tourist attractions, places to eat and things you must do when you are in the city. I think researching beforehand makes it more exciting as you can look forward to all the things you are going to see and do plus if you only have a short time somewhere you want to be organised.

The Shard In London

We were thinking of going to London again as it is our favourite place and everything is just amazing there. If you have never been to The Shard then it is definitely a must do attraction as well as the London Eye.

 The Glasgow Tower

After some thought we think we may take a trip up North next time. We have only ever been to Scotland once, we went to Glasgow and it was so much fun. Last time we drove, and the journey took so long so it will definitely be a train journey rather than car. I am really looking forward to just relaxing on the way this time and not having to make lots of toilet and snack stops! There was so much to see and do in Glasgow but we didn't manage to do it all in the short time we had, so I think this will be our next destination.

The view from Glasgow Tower

We have found that the earlier you book your journey on the train, the better. You can usually book table seats which tend to have a socket for any charging you may need to do on the way. Useful!

Are you planning to go travelling this half term? Do let us know where you are headed.

  2. I love this - I travelled around Europe this summer by train, and it was so nice to sit back and see the countryside, and also a quick way to get from A to B (except when our train broke down!). Unfortunately, I never really travel by rail in the UK as it's so expensive - but if it were cheaper I'd love to head up north as well - I've heard so many amazing things about Glasgow, and it's somewhere I'd really love to go! <3 xx

  11. We didn't travel this half-term but we also love exploring new places and using trains and buses to do so. The UK is full of fascinating things old and new. The children are also enjoying a little retail, too.

  26. I have to admit that we planned to travel by train this week but due to the work at Waterloo our train would have taken 3 hours instead of the normal 90 mins, so we cheated and drove half way.

  37. we like the train but the cost is extortionate :( example Crdiff to london by coach is like £10 return cheap tickets or around £30 return for normal tix - on the train your looking at £30 if you can get the cheap tickets but usually its more like £120+
