Ideas To Keep You Busy In October

We are officially in the last quarter of 2021. Does anyone else think this year has flown by? This month we can expect darker mornings and darker nights. The Autumn wind will make it a little bit colder than September and we will just want to curl up on the sofa. However if you are looking for some ideas on how to keep busy this month then check out below.

october

Vodka Day (4th)
Vodka which is translated as 'little water' is my choice of spirit. I usually only enjoy it at the weekend however I might make an exception for Vodka Day.

Improve Your Office Day (4th)
So many people are still working from home so you may be working from an office, a spare room at home or from the dining room table. Wherever you do your work, todays the day to give your office a clean and a declutter to improve your working space.

World Teachers Day (5th)
Teachers do an amazing job with our children every day throughout the school year, developing them in to the adults they will become. Today is the day to show our appreciation.

Mad Hatter Day (6th)
Celebrate Mad Hatter day by watching Alice in Wonderland. Which one will you choose? I prefer the original but the remake featuring Johnny Depp was also great.

Bathtub Day (7th)
The first bathtub was created on this day in 1828. Why not turn your tub in to a mini spa today and chill and relax.

Beer and Pizza Day (9th)
This may be a normal Saturday night combination for you but if not why not give it a try tonight.

Handbag Day (10th)
I don't really need an excuse to buy a new handbag which you may have guessed if you recently saw my Disney Loungefly collection on Instagram. If you don't fancy buying a new bag today maybe give your bag a clear out.

Cake Decorating Day (10th)
The perfect way to spend an afternoon.

Face Your Fears Day (12th)
We are all scared of something - what is your fear? Maybe you could try and face it today?

No Bra Day (13th)
No bra day was created to raise awareness of breast cancer which affects 1 in 8 women. Maybe use today to check your boobs and get rid of the bra.

Dessert Day (14th)
I will be enjoying a huge slice of rainbow cake to help celebrate Dessert Day today. What dessert will you choose?

Global Handwashing Day (15th)
Making sure we are continuing to wash our hands has been one of the main focuses over the past 20 months. Let's not get complacent and use today as a reminder how important washing our hands is.

Department Store Day (16th)
Department stores can make life so much easier offering everything under one roof. Maybe pay one a visit today and start some early Christmas shopping.

Chocolate Cupcake Day (18th)
Again I really don't need an excuse to enjoy any type of cake but today I will choose a chocolate cupcake.

Pumpkin Day (26th)
Head out to your local patch today to pick a pumpkin. If you've already got one why not enjoy some pumpkin soup, pie or a pumpkin spiced latte.

Happy Halloween (31st)
However you are spending today I hope you have a Happy Halloween

A Mole Like No Other Exclusive Giveaway

Disclosure - This is a paid collaboration. This post contains affiliate links.

A few months ago we found A Mole Like No Other children's book. After just a few pages we had all fell in love with Moley as he begins his journey from an unwanted stuffed toy for sale at an Easter fair to the home of a little boy called Ashley.

A mole like no other book
A Mole Like No Other tells the story of a stuffed mole. All he knows is that for as long as he can remember he has been been pressed up against a bright yellow tractor and has had a smelly old football boot near his over sensitive nose. Moley is in a box of unwanted toys. Moley can only dream that one day he will see the light of day again.

You can imagine how Moley must have felt when one day he feels the box lift off the ground, Moley is sure his life is about to change and begin again. Moley soon hears a familiar voice, one he hasn't heard for a long time. His owner Lorna. Lorna has taken Moley to an Easter fair to sell him however she is sure no one will want an 'ugly old mole' so even offers him for free. Will Moley find a new owner that will love and care for him?

Luckily Moley is bought by a little boy called Ashley. Ashley decides to call him Moley and takes him home to be with the rest of his stuffed toy animals.

Moley's new home is a beautiful English cottage surrounded by nature and animals. Follow Moley as he makes lots of new friends thanks to Ashley's stuffed animals and real animals on his adventures.

Since reading A Mole Like No Other we have followed some of the adventures of Moley through Julia's socials. Julia B. Grantham is a children's author and created A Mole Like No Other. A Mole Like No Other is a lovely bedtime story which we read together. The book touches on emotions and friendships. It's beautiful written, the characters are funny and intriguing, a perfect choice book to read  alone or aloud.

I have teamed up with Julia to offer one lucky Playdays and Runways follower the chance to win a copy of A Mole Like No Other signed by Julia B Grantham, an exclusive hand-knitted Moley (only 6 have been hand made by a lady from Brazil) and some Moley chocolates.

If you are not lucky enough to win then you can purchase A Mole Like No Other over on Amazon and also head to Julia's twitter for updates on Moley's adventures.

The Best Pumpkin Picking In The UK

A few years ago we went Pumpkin Picking for the first time and it was so much fun. We went to Kenyon Hall Farm in Warrington and it was really good. We wanted to choose somewhere close by, so I asked some of my friends and Kenyon Hall Farm was the most popular. Being popular means you usually have to book your tickets early and we have already secured ours for this year. If you are looking to pick a pumpkin this year, I have asked some friends from all over the UK to tell me their favourite places to Pumpkin Pick so check out their recommendations below.

Young Adult Books Perfect For Halloween - Books2Door

Disclosure - We where sent the products below for the purpose of this post. All thoughts, opinions and photographs are our unless stated. This post contains affiliate links.

As you may already know I joined a monthly book club earlier this year which I am loving being a part of. I think the last time I read a book was about 3 years ago whilst on holiday. I love reading but never seem to have the time. Since joining the book club I realised I do have time and I am whizzing through the books. I was asked recently to take a look at the books available from Books2Door. Books2Door were established in 2004 and do exactly as their name states, they deliver books straight to your door. The selection of children's books available is huge and at bargain prices too.

book boxsets

As little J loves to read too I would usually choose him some books however I decided to take a look for myself. Although Books2Door is aimed at children there is a young adult section which suits me perfectly. Autumn and Halloween are upon us so I browsed for some books that would suit the season.

the vampire diaries 13 book boxset

What better books to read as we approach Halloween, The Vampire Diaries Complete collection. The boxset is aimed at young adults however The Vampire Diaries is hugely popular with adults due to the success of the TV series The Vampire Diaries.

The vampire diaries book

The boxset consists of 13 books which follow Elena Gilbert who is a young girl attending high school but who soon finds herself torn between two Italian brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore. You might think this sounds like any other high school romance or love triangle with twists and turns that young teens face through their teenage years but all is not as it seems. Readers will soon learn that the brothers are centuries old vampires.

Sticking with the vampire theme I also chose True Blood, Charlaine Harries, The Sookie Stackhouse series boxset.

This boxset also includes 13 books which follows the life of Sookie. Sookie  is a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She's quiet, keeps to herself, and doesn't get out much - not because she's not pretty, she's a very cute bubbly blonde, or not interested in a social life - she really is ... but Sookie's got a bit of a disability. She can read minds. And that doesn't make her too dateable.

Then comes along Bill. He's tall, he's dark and he's handsome - and Sookie can't 'hear' a word he's thinking. He's exactly the type of guy she's been waiting all her life for. But Bill has a disability of his own. He's fussy about his food, he doesn't like suntans and he's never around during the day, Bill's a vampire. Worse than that, he hangs with a seriously creepy crowd, with a reputation for trouble - of the murderous kind.

Sookie Stackhouse book

And then one of Sookie's colleagues at the bar is killed, and it's beginning to look like Sookie might be the next victim.

I cannot wait to start reading the books I chose. They will definitely get me in the mood for the spooky season.

You will find thousands of books at Books2Door with some up 80% off their RRP plus free shipping on orders over £35. For more information or to browse the books available, visit Books2Door

This post has been updated for 2021 including all the attractions for the 2021 Halloween Festival.

Halloween season is lots of fun and even more special if you are heading to Disneyland Paris. We really enjoyed visiting during Halloween and there are lots of tricks and treats to enjoy at the hotels and the parks to keep you busy. If you are planning a trip this Halloween season then I've gathered some information to make the most of your visit.

Happy Halloween Sign at Disneyland Paris

Disney's Halloween festival is back in 2021 and begins on the 1st October right up until 7th November.

Disneyland Park

I'm Walking Right Down The Middle Of Main Street, USA
From the moment you head in to the park you will be greeted with pumpkins and Halloween decorations as they line the streets with tricks and treats ready to pop up anywhere to give you a spooky surprise.

Main Street is one of our favourite places to take photographs as it is always decorated perfectly for the Halloween season. There will be lots of Mickey pumpkins, ghosts and ghouls ready to be snapped.

The decorations and music at Disneyland Paris really add to your whole experience and they do it so well.

Halloween brings out the villains and you will definitely spot a few of your favourites. Halloween season is the only time you can spot some of the villains so you won't want to miss them.

Maleficent will be lurking around Sleeping Beauty's Castle so make sure you check out Fantasyland.

If you fancy seeing Captain Hook head to Adventureland and look out for the Jolly Roger.

Make sure you have your phones ready for a villain selfie.

Who's Lurking At Hollywood Studios?
From 1 October, evil villains and other mischievous characters are invading Studio Theatre for your goosebump-inducing pleasure. A screamingly good time awaits those courageous enough to spend time in the presence of these rebellious rapscallions.

The Tower Of Terror
Welcome to the dusty remnants of the once-glamourous Hollywood Tower Hotel. Going up? Hop inside the service elevator and discover the surprises that lie on the upper floors - we’re sure you’ll fall quickly for this old Hotel’s quirky charms. Oh, and make sure you strap in, you never know what can happen in a rickety old lift.

As well as all the spooky shenanigans you can enjoy all your favourite rides.

Opening times and ride closures are updated on the Disneyland Paris website under plan your visit so make sure you check that out before your visit so you can plan your days.

Roald Dahl Day - Ten Interesting Facts You May Not Know About The Author

The 13th September is recognised around the world as Roald Dahl Day. Roald Dahl was born in Wales on the 13th September 1916 and would have celebrated his 105th birthday this year. We all know Roald Dahl for his children's books. Whether you are a fan or not you will have heard of his stories or seen the movie versions of the children's classics. Roald Dahl wasn't just a children's author, in fact he didn't start writing until much later on in his life after having children of his own.

a selection of Roald Dahl books

There is much more to Roald Dahl and I have gathered ten very interesting facts that you may not know.

1. Dahl was a young RAF pilot in World War 2. He almost died after his plane crashed suffering from skull, nose and spine injuries. He went on to have six surgeries and two hip replacements.

2. He became a spy for William Stephenson during the War.

3. Dahl worked alongside Ian Fleming as well as many others. It is said that due to his friendship with Fleming, Roald Dahl went on to write the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice and then co wrote the screenplay for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Roald Dahl created one of the scariest children's villains of all time, The child catcher.

4. When Roald Dahls daughter was seven she died from measles complications. The virus entered Olivias brain and caused inflammation.

5. Roald Dahl reached a height of 6ft 6 when he became an adult.

roald dahl book

6. Roald Dahls first children's book, James and The Giant Peach appeared in the US in 1961. It was banned in several states as people claimed it encouraged disobedience, there were flirtatious characters and it referenced drugs and alcohol.

7. It was 1967 before a British publisher decided to publish James and The Giant peach in the UK. Roald Dahl had to front up half the costs of publishing or the deal was off.

roald dahl book

8. Gobblefunk language was created by Roald Dahl and features hundreds of words including ringbeller, trogglehumper, whizzpopping, biffsquiggled and gizzardgulping. An Oxford Roald Dahl dictionary was created in 2016 to mark his 100th birthday.

9. Roald Dahl had a dislike for beards. It was because of his dislike he created The Twits as a campaign against them.

10. At the time of his death, Roald Dahl was planning a 3rd instalment to his popular classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The book was to be called Charlie and The White House.

How many of these facts did you already know? Do you have any others you can share?

roald dahl books

We are huge fans of Roald Dahl, both his books and the their movie versions. We first introduced little J to his stories way back in 2015 when McDonalds featured Roald Dahl books in their Happy Meals. I think everyone has their own favourite and for me it's Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory movie. The original starring Gene Wilder just reminds me of when I was little and I just loved it. I would watch it all the time.

What's your favourite book or movie?
