Halloween at Quarry Bank Mill – A Spooky Night

Last Updated October 2025

Disclosure – We were invited to visit Quarry Bank Mill for their Halloween event. All thoughts, opinions and photographs are our own.

Halloween at Quarry Bank Mill is one of the newest and most talked about Halloween trails in the North West, brought to you by the same creative team behind Christmas at Dunham Massey. Running from Thursday 23 October to Saturday 1 November 2025, the event promises spooky fun for everyone and it really delivers. Set within the stunning grounds of National Trust Quarry Bank, this after dark experience combines eerie lighting, haunting soundscapes, and glowing installations to create an atmospheric Halloween adventure that’s perfect for couples, families, and anyone looking for something unique to do this October.

The kids couldn’t make it to this one, so we decided to turn it into a much needed Halloween date night. And honestly, it was the perfect choice!

Arriving at Quarry Bank Mill

We arrived at Quarry Bank Mill just after dusk and were immediately directed to a nearby parking space by friendly staff. It was all well organised and clearly signposted, which made a great first impression. From the moment we stepped out of the car, the atmosphere hit us,  spooky lighting and chilling music greeted us as we made our way on to the trail.

It instantly set the tone for what was to come, spooky but not too scary, the kind of Halloween experience that gives you goosebumps in the best possible way.

Entering the Trail

The Halloween trail begins with an incredible photo opportunity. Looming in front of us were giant skeletons as though they were walking out of the woods themselves. Their eerie glow and blinking eyes made them look almost alive, and everyone stopped here to take photos. Next to them, twisted branches were wrapped with skulls and skeletons in green light, a brilliant and creepy start to the evening.

As we made our way further into the trail, we suddenly heard the sound of hooves approaching. It was one of those moments where the whole crowd went quiet, waiting to see what was coming. Out of the mist appeared the Headless Horseman. It was a brilliant touch and easily one of the highlights of the night, everyone stopped in their tracks to capture the moment.

Inside the Mill

From there, the path led us into the historic mill building itself. Quarry Bank Mill is atmospheric at the best of times, but in the dark, with flickering lights and haunting music, it felt even more mysterious. The organisers had done a great job creating an eerie ambience without making it too frightening, so it still felt suitable for families with children.

We had expected a few jump scares here after all, the old machinery and echoing corridors would make the perfect setting for a ghost or two but we only encountered one actor inside the entire building, and he was chatting to another family. Even so, the setting was so effective that it didn’t really matter. The creaking floors, dark corners and smell gave the illusion that we weren’t quite alone.

The Cemetery and Fire Show

Halfway through the trail, we reached the cemetery area, which was beautifully themed with tombstones, mist, and glowing lanterns. This section was also home to the food stalls and bar, making it the perfect place to take a break.

We toasted marshmallows over the open fire (because it wouldn’t be Halloween without something sweet) and grabbed a drink before watching the fire show. The performers were absolutely brilliant, their five minute routines were filled with daring stunts, flames spinning and swirling. They performed short sets every few minutes, so it was easy to catch more than one show. We stayed for two performances and were completely mesmerised.

The bar area had a great selection of themed treats, including Heaven & Hell burgers, Vampire Dogs, and Trick or Treat pizzas, as well as drinks like spiced hot toddies and hot chocolates. It was lovely to see everyone relaxing, chatting, and soaking up the atmosphere before continuing the trail.

Through the Gardens and the Final Stretch

After the cemetery, we continued through the gardens, which were lit with glowing installations and soft, eerie music. There was so much to see along the way from laser lights, spooky shapes emerging through the fog, pumpkins and more.

The final section of the trail took us through a series of illuminated spider webs, which looked incredible against the dark sky. It was a great way to end the experience, bringing together all the best elements light, music, and that little bit of Halloween magic.

All in all, the trail took us around an hour to complete, including our stop for food and the fire show. You could easily do it quicker if you wanted to, but we really enjoyed taking our time and soaking up the atmosphere.

Our Thoughts

This was our second Halloween trail this year, and Quarry Bank Mill definitely stood out for its creativity, lighting, and unique setting. It’s spooky rather than scary, making it ideal for all ages though as it was just the two of us, I secretly wished for a few more jump scares, especially inside the mill! The historic building would have been the perfect place for a ghostly surprise or two.

Still, the experience was so well put together that it didn’t matter. The lighting and music made it feel immersive from start to finish. It’s a fantastic way to spend a dark October evening whether as a family, a group of friends, or, like us, for a memorable Halloween date night.

Ticket Information

Tickets for Halloween at Quarry Bank Mill are priced at:

Adults: £18
Children (3–16 years): £14

You can reduce the cost by booking a family ticket or visiting during an off-peak time. It’s worth noting that timed entry and limited capacity mean tickets often sell out quickly, so it’s best to book online in advance to secure your preferred date and time slot.

Food and drink are not included in the ticket price, but there’s a great selection of stalls available on site, and everything we tried was delicious.
