Playbrush Review

Luckily Little J has always enjoyed brushing his teeth, it is part of his morning and bedtime routine and he likes trying to do it himself. There have been times when he really didn't want to brush his teeth especially when he was teething or if he is really tired. On days like this we would sing a song, count or anything we could think of that would distract him as we brushed. A few weeks ago we were sent a device called Playbrush which makes brushing fun.

The Playbrush is a bluetooth device that attaches to a manual toothbrush. Once attached to the toothbrush, the Playbrush and toothbrush together turn in to game controller. The motion sensor within the device will monitor and record how your child brushes their teeth and offer rewards for brushing twice daily.

Before we started we downloaded the special games on our mobile phone. The device is used with the games and encourages the child to brush to earn points within the game. Although the Playbrush is suitable for 3 years plus the games are a little complicated for little J as he isn't at the stage of brushing independently yet. Either Daddy or I brush his teeth and he watches the game on the app, although he isn't in control he still finds it lots of fun.

The three games available are

Utoothia and Utoothia Sky
The players will have to travel through 12 counties to collect the 12 teeth. Each country of Utoothia represents a new level and you have to achieve various tasks and rewards to win back the teeth.

Utoothia Magic
The goal of this game is to put as many Crobies as possible to flight! The tooth monsters are coming closer and closer if you do not brush your teeth. If you start brushing one of the respective sides however, you fight them with your laser. Your laser is as powerful that whilst you are fighting one of the Crobies the others freeze.

The games are free to download and the main focus of the Playbrush and the app games is to encourage children to brush their teeth. The Playbrush device can hold unto to 6 profiles so there is no need for 1 per child.

  1. What a brilliant idea!!! This is so clever. I struggled with my toddler at first but nw we sing the "teethie song" (set to the tune of the fa la la la bingo song) and it works. Would love this for independent brushing.

  2. I like the idea of this for my son in a cowpoke of years, at 2 he still hates his teeth being brushed and I'm getting worried about any damage he might have. My older 2 (16 & 12) don't have any fillings so I would like him to follow suit!

  5. Thankfully I have never had any problems getting my children to brush their teeth but these are a great encouragement if you do have children that need a little persuasion.
