Play and Stay at Royal Berkshire with Jaques of London

Disclosure - We were invited to Royal Berkshire for the purpose of this post. All thoughts, opinions and photographs are our own.

As part of our family break visiting Chessington World of Adventures and Thorpe Park, we added a stay at the Royal Berkshire Hotel, a family-friendly luxury hotel in Berkshire that turned out to be the perfect place to relax and celebrate John’s birthday. Nestled in the beautiful Berkshire countryside, just a short drive from both parks, the Royal Berkshire Hotel was the perfect place to pause, recharge, and create even more unforgettable memories.

We only stayed for one night, but we honestly wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel is absolutely stunning, with its grand country house charm, picturesque gardens, and a true sense of luxury, yet what really stood out to us was how wonderfully family-friendly it was. It struck the perfect balance of elegance and playfulness, something that's not always easy to find in hotels.

Why We Chose Royal Berkshire Hotel for a Family Break

After a few high-energy days exploring theme parks, we were looking for somewhere special to unwind  but we didn’t want to compromise on keeping things fun for our youngest. We’d heard great things about the Royal Berkshire and it turned out to be a brilliant choice.

The hotel is ideally located for families like ours who are visiting nearby attractions such as

Legoland Windsor - 9 minute drive

Thorpe Park - 15 minute drive

Chessington World of Adventures - 40 minute drive

It’s a fantastic base for families exploring Surrey and Berkshire, but it also makes for a brilliant mini-break in its own right and this Summer they have an amazing family friendly offer.

Play and Stay with Jaques of London

One of the things that made our stay even more exciting this Summer was the Play and Stay collaboration between Royal Berkshire Hotel and Jaques of London. Although we stayed just before August officially began, the hotel kindly still included some elements of the package.

If you’re planning a break before the school holidays end, this collaboration is such a fun and thoughtful offering. Here’s what’s included -

A free Jaques of London family toy to take home

Hosted kids’ activities by Coco Rio

A dedicated playroom and garden games galore

Unlimited soft drinks for the kids plus an in-room snack box

A delicious Full English breakfast each morning and family-friendly dining options

Stay 2 nights or more and save 10%

It’s an ideal way to mix playtime with pampering. Whether you're stopping off during a theme park trip like we did, or planning a countryside escape, the Royal Berkshire has everything in place to make your stay seamless and fun for the whole family.

Little J received a Jaques of London 9 Peg Quoits game and a snack box waiting in the room. It was such a nice gesture and made the experience even more memorable for him.

Family Friendly Activities at Royal Berkshire

Outside, we explored the beautiful gardens and spent hours enjoying the wide variety of games available free of charge.

The hotel have made excellent use of their garden space offering

Giant chequers

Snakes and ladders

Football

And our absolute favourite, frisbee golf

It was wonderful to see how much effort the hotel had put into making the outdoor space fun and engaging for children, without compromising the elegance of the grounds. Whether it was enjoying his tenth game of frisbee golf or simply relaxing with a drink as the sun set, little J had the best time.

Staying in the Lady Mary Suite – Ideal for Families

We were booked in to the Lady Mary Suite, and it completely exceeded our expectations. The suite was huge and perfectly suited to families. Little J had his own bedroom, which gave us all a bit of space to spread out and relax, something that’s so appreciated after long days at the theme parks.

As we entered the suite, we were greeted by the soothing sounds of Smooth Chill playing from the speaker, such a nice touch and immediately made us feel at home. The suite itself was beautifully furnished with a large king-size bed, a spacious lounge area, and windows overlooking the beautiful lawns of the hotel grounds.

The bathroom had both a bath and a walk in shower with plenty of toiletries included.

In the room, we found some lovely extras, the snack box for little J filled with goodies, soft drinks and  water, and a surprise bottle of wine on ice waiting for us a thoughtful treat that really made the occasion feel extra special.

Family-Friendly Meets Five-Star Comfort

The Royal Berkshire has really done a fantastic job of making families feel welcome while still maintaining that luxurious, country house feel. Every detail felt carefully considered from the thoughtful welcome amenities to the spacious family rooms, to the play areas that blended beautifully with the surroundings.

It’s not often you find a hotel that caters so effortlessly to children while still feeling like a real treat for the adults too. We left feeling well-rested, well-fed, and completely recharged after a few busy days of theme park fun.
