#OurSummerDays Day 8

Day 8
While the Monkey is away, Mummy and Daddy didn't play.

Big J went over to New Brighton today with his friend. They had a great day, had some lunch and played mini golf.

Normally Daddy and I would have some chill time especially when little J is sleep but today I had other plans.

I went into big J's bedroom and completely transformed it. Set up a new desk, rearranged his furniture and had a good clear out. I was shattered afterwards but it was definitely worth it and it did need doing.

Little J kept Daddy company downstairs and they opened up this months Degustabox which arrived.

When big J got home he loved his new room and sat and watched a movie on his new TV.

Tomorrow we will be heading out to the Farm - 34 days of fun left

We are loving Mu Cheese this summer

If you have read some of my previous posts you will know that we recently met George Sampson at a special Mu Cheese event. If you have missed it you can have a read here and here.
While we were there we got to taste some delicious samples of Mu Cheese.
We tried 100% Mu Cheese Medium Cheddar Discs first. They were delicious and my two monkeys loved them. They reminded me of a cheese slice but they were round and tasted like proper cheese. To me some cheese slices taste rubbery but these were lovely. Perfect for sandwiches, pizza toppings or on a burger :)
Then we got to try some chopped up cheese from a block. I cannot remember which flavour it was but it was very nice and my mum (who loves cheese) loved it. Very moreish.
Then my two monkeys both had a cheddar stick each. Again they scoffed the lot :)
After our tasting session we were given some samples to take home. Daddy loves his cheese and couldn't make it to the event so I knew he would be happy to try at home.
Once home I took a peek and we had been given

MU Grated Cheddar - this will be perfect for me because I love adding a layer of grated cheese to my homemade lasagne. Little J also loves grated cheese sandwiches. looking forward to giving it a try.

MU Cheddar Sticks - This pack has already been opened as you might be able to tell and two sticks are missing already ;) one each for my monkeys.

MU Mature Cheddar - looking forward to making some nice cheese and ham salad sandwiches with this.

MU Cheddar Discs - These are not in the photo because we used them before I took a photo. We used them on top of chicken burgers and they went down very well here.

All in all I am extremely happy I have found MU cheese. Out of us all I am probably the least keen on cheese but I have ate more recently than I usually would because it is very tasty.

You can visit MU Cheese here and view their product range.

Have you tasted MU cheese? Which is your favourite?

Big J has the Mu-ves

I often try to catch big J on camera while he is singing or dancing, but he is old enough now to know what I'm doing. He knows it will most likely end up on facebook or my blog so he runs away and hides. He has such a lovely voice and is a great dancer and throughout the years he has been the starring role in most of the schools plays or productions.
I recently heard that George Sampson has teamed up with Mu to help get kids Mu-ving. He has also done a you tube video.
I love George Sampson I remember watching him on Britain's Got Talent and he was amazing.
Big J and I watched George's video and we did some of the dance routine. George explains the steps really slowly and in steps that are easy to follow. It was lots of fun and definitely worth a go.
We were lucky to be invited to meet George at the National Football Museum recently and it was such a lovely day. We met with George and he talked Big J and the other children through some dance moves.
It was a lovely day outside so we stepped out to watch George and the children.
George was great with the children and talked them through every step and they all had a great time.
There is also a video of the end result when George is joined by two dancers and they perform all the steps of the routine.
I took some photos of big J doing the routine :)
check out the videos and give it a go yourself with the kids.
You can read more about our day here and here and you can check out MU Cheese Website here.

Sky Ripperz

A few weeks ago I wasn't feeling too good, just a cough and cold but it was driving me mad staying indoors. I love going out but I didn't have the energy. Big J received a new toy and he eagerly wanted to try it out so despite feeling under the weather I took him to the local park.
He received a packet of Sky Ripperz by Air Storm and Re:Creation. They are an outdoor toy and after reading the instructions I knew we needed a nice big open space.
Sky Ripperz look like a catapult and rockets and when you put them together it creates a bungee type gadget.
We found a nice big open space as the packaging says they can soar through the air and up to 75 meters high. I wasn't convinced as we have had toys like this before and been quite disappointed but big J was excited so we opened them up and got ready to launch the first rocket.
Its quite easy to create the catapult effect and once you are ready you just let go.
Big J prepared himself for a long run to go and collect his rocket and I was laughing because I could only imagine it going a few feet. I was wrong.
The rocket launched up in the air and carried on going. It was brilliant. It went so far and there is a whistling effect too. I honestly couldn't believe how far it went.
Big J ran after it and brought it back for another go. He loved it. He played with it and kept running back and forth. There was one incident were he decided to launch it back towards me. The wind must have carried it further than he expected and it did almost hit someone who was riding a bike right before it landed in the water. So unfortunately we are one down but it was quite funny.
It was so much fun and really cheered us up after I had been feeling rubbish all week.
Sky Ripperz are suitable from 8 years and up and are available at Smyths, Amazon and Toys R Us
Each pack has 3 Air Storm Sky Ripperz Whistle Screaming Rockets and 1 Rip-Zip Launcher
Currently priced at £9.99
* we were sent Sky Ripperz to try. All the thoughts and opinions above are our own*

#OurSummerDays Day 7

Trafford Centre
Today we visited the Trafford Centre. It was a cloudy day so we thought rather than be caught in rain somewhere we would stay indoors.
We visited Hamleys, Paradise Island Golf, Namco Funscape and the soft play area.
Little J enjoyed being chased by his big brother in the play area and played with some toys in Hamleys
Big J scored a hole in one in the golf and won £10 to spend in Namco Funscape where he won a Mr Potato Head Teddy.

Little J Is Making Music

Little J loves making noises with his toys whether it's banging two blocks together or hitting a plastic box like a drum, he is always trying to make new sounds.
A few weeks ago he was at play group and was playing with a xylophone and even though it was such a simple toy he loved it. He sat playing with it longer than any other toy there and seemed to really enjoy himself.
When we were given the chance to review a toy from What2Buy4Kids I had a look on the website to see if there were any xylophones and there were.
We were sent a Lion Xylophone by Orange Tree Toys.
The Lion xylophone is hand crafted and made of wood. Designed in the Uk and made with non-toxic paint.
The first thing you notice is the colours it's so bright and very appealing to little ones.
There are 5 colourful keys with a nice lion face at the top. The two wooden drumsticks included have red and blue at the top.
Each key has a different sound.
Little J knew exactly what to do with it when we took it out the box. He picked up the drumstick and hit the coloured keys. After two or three hits he would put down the stick and clap :)
I had a go of the xylophone too and sang twinkle twinkle and I hit the keys softly. After I finished he then hit the keys lighter than before and looked at me to sing again. It was really sweet.
He seems to prefer just using one drumstick at the moment.
I think it's so important for children to be given the chance to use musical instruments from a young age. It's a way to express themselves and as little J gets older I want to continue introducing instruments and different sounds.
As you may already know I am a huge fan of classic toys and I know it can be hard for these types of toys to compete with the latest crazes and gadgets. For me this is an excellent introduction to the musical world. Bold colours, lovely sounds and little J and his big brother had so much fun.
There is also a Lion Tambourine so that might be next on my list of instrument to buy.
To read more about Lion Xylophone you can view it here priced at £13.50 from What2Buy4Kids
*we were sent the Lion xylophone in return for a full honest review. all thoughts above are our own*

#OurSummerDays Day 6

Day 6
Today was a nice chill day after a very busy weekend. Big J was desperate to try out his new pool but before it had filled up he jumped in and played in it all day.
It looks like the weather is changing this week and is going to be cloudy with some rain :( hopefully it won't spoil our fun because we still have 36 left.

#OurSummerDays Day 5

We were up bright and early today and joined the other 1 million people who have watched the giants over the last few days. We headed to the city centre and it was so busy. We made our way down to the waterfront so we could see the giants leave. Uncle P joined us and we waited for the boat to sail past carrying the giants. I was slightly disappointed that the giants were lying on the beds. I thought they might be sat up waving but they just sailed by asleep. I am gutted to see them go and I wish we had of seen more of them but I am hoping they will return in the future. As usual little J missed it all and slept right through it.

Later we made our way to Calderstones Park. We played some football and had fun on the swings. Grandma and Grandad came and today are celebrating their 40th Wedding anniversary :)

Another busy day with the monkeys today. 37 days of fun left

#OurSummerDays Day 4

DAY 4
The Giants Wake in Newsham Park

A few years ago Little Girl Giant and her uncle walked the streets of Liverpool for three days. It was such an amazing experience to see these huge characters in real life and I will never forget seeing the uncle up close. This year Royal De Luxe brought back the little girl, and this year she was with her grandma. We went to see them wake in Newsham park and it really is amazing. When we arrived they were both just lying on their beds and then they woke up. Grandma was put in her wheel chair where she enjoyed smoking a pipe and having a sneaky drink out a hip flask. The little girl woke and was undressed and put under the shower were she washed her hair. Then her dog joined her and they paraded around the park before they left. It was such a great morning and hopefully we will get to see them tomorrow as they leave Liverpool
Memories of 1914 is listed in the Roberts Bakery 50 days of Summer

Then after we had seen the Giants it was off to the Otterspool to meet Grandma and have a play in the sun.
What will we get up to tomorrow? 38 days of fun still left :)

#OurSummerDays Day 3

George showed us his Mu-ves

Today Big J, little J, Nana, Grandad and I all piled in the car and headed to the National Football Museum in Manchester to meet George Sampson and watch his Mu-ves at a special Mu Cheese event.

you can read more about what we got up to here.

After we met George and tasted some delicious cheese it was time for lunch and a visit to the National Football Museum.

There was so much to do. Big J and Grandad took some penalties, Big J did some keepie ups, and little J played in the soft play area with Nana

I even got to try on a Liverpool shirt :)

Then after we got home it was back in the garden for more fun in the sun.

Loving the summer holidays so far and still 39 days of fun left

We did the #RealMumsAllBran 5 Day Challenge

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and I know this but I still skip it most days or grab something on the go. I think because mornings are just so busy I just don't bother but I know that's no excuse. I always make sure big and little J sit down and eat breakfast and I sit with them, I just don't eat.
Recently I was offered the chance to take the #RealMumsAllBran 5 Day Challenge. I have never tried all bran cereal before but I have heard of it. I read the information before I signed up and this stood out for me.
'90-95 % of the 'happy' hormone serotonin is made in the gut. Eating fibre every day is a simple remedy for happy tums'
I often feel bloated and there is nothing worse than a bloated rounded tummy. It makes me want to cover up my stomach and I feel really uncomfortable.
The idea is to eat All Bran every day for 5 days and see if you notice any difference.

To help me with this challenge I received three boxes of All Bran.
Golden Crunch
Red Berry Crunch
Chocolate Wheat's
I'm not the biggest fan of cereal but they did all look appetising.
I tried all the three flavours on the first three days.
They were all tasty. Golden Crunch was very chewy and sweet. Red Berry Crunch was very sweet, too sweet for me Daddy loved them. The chocolate wheat's were tasty but I wasn't keen on the idea of having chocolate for breakfast. Big J loved the chocolate version. He usually has a chocolate type cereal for breakfast anyway. The last two days I ate the golden crunch.
I found the 5 day challenge easier than I thought. I enjoyed sitting down at breakfast time and eating for a change rather than just grabbing on the go. The golden crunch was my favourite and it stopped me from reaching for a mid morning snack. It really did fill me up till lunchtime. I personally felt a huge difference in my tummy. I'm not sure whether its because I ate a proper breakfast but I am definitely less bloated.
I am looking forward to breakfast every day now so that is a great start for me to feel a little healthier.
This post is an entry for the Real Mums of All-Bran Linky sponsored by Kelloggs

#OurSummerDays Day 2

Day 2

today we went and bought two new pools. One for big J and one for little J. Unfortunately the bigger of the two was so huge it would fit in the garden. Oops. It's okay because my mum and dad bought it so big J can still have fun in the larger pool in Nana's and we will get a smaller one tomorrow.

Big J's friend came over for a few hours and they played football in the hot sun? While little J splashed in the pool.

Another scorcher here today - 40 days of fun left.

From Womb to Own Room

I remember after having little J the community midwife asked me was little J in his own room yet. I said no because he must have only been 6 months old at the time and I hadn't even thought about it yet. I googled it straight away thinking that maybe he should be but after reading online, it is recommended that little ones stay in a parents room till at least 6 months old.
I wasn't ready for little J to be on his own just yet, he was so small and I couldn't imagine him not being there when I opened my eyes. Daddy felt the same too. With big J we probably left it too late, he was about 2 or even slightly older and this caused really bad sleep problems.
As time went on we realised that it probably was time for little J to go in his own room but taking that leap and actually preparing the nursery was tough. We found it hard to actually get started. Little J's room was just a spare computer room really so it did need a makeover.
To get the ball rolling Daddy and big J went paint shopping and together they picked the perfect colour.

Next we started browsing online for new bedroom furniture for little J. He needed everything really.
I wanted a nice wardrobe that could display all his teddies on top. I remember my wardrobe when I was little was full of teddies and I loved looking at them whilst I was going asleep.
There are some amazing wardrobes on Fortune Woods website as well as some gorgeous blanket boxes. We have accumulated so many blankets and towels I thought a lovely blanket box would be a nice touch and a good place to sit for night feeds :)
This one is gorgeous
After the browsing online was done it really was time to actually get moving and start.
Daddy and big J did all the painting themselves and once they got started the whole room was transformed in just a few days.
It looked amazing and I couldn't actually wait for little J to go in there. It just looked so fresh and snug.
We knew it would be a tough transition from our room to his own but like everything else little J just got on with it. No problems at all.
He loves his room and it was the perfect time for him to move. I think it is important to do it when you feel you are both ready and only then will it work out right.
How did you get on moving your little one into their own room?

#OurSummerDays Day 1

Big J finished half day so it was straight into the garden to enjoy the sunshine. Lots of trampolining and football. Enjoyed our dinner outside then it was time for him to have a snooze because he was exhausted. It was really hot here and it went to 31 degrees on my car temperature gauge.
The summer holidays have begun - 41 days of fun left

Teaching my Teen to be Clean

We are almost at that time when big J becomes a teenager. It's not a time I'm actually looking forward to because I remember what I was like when I was a teen. You may remember a post I did here on big J becoming quite dirty. Dirty in the sense he leaves stuff lying round, empty glasses on his window ledge and clothes scattered on the floor. I'm not sure whether it's a boy thing or a soon to be teen thing or both?
Andrex has  recently released a clean report and some of the information and statistics were quite a surprise.
Big J and I had a read of the clean report together which states that 1 in 4 people are not sure how to clean themselves.  We had a chat about his body and hormones Big J knows that when you become a teenager your body changes and it is important to keep it clean.

Some people don't feel comfortable talking about certain topics but that can leave people unsure on how to do something. I am quite open about most things and not shy at all.
Being the only girl in our house I have to put my foot down quite a lot because our bathroom can sometimes become quite messy and smelly.
Andrex researched what 'How To' topics people google and a whopping 65.7 million were how to wash your hands and 1.19 million searches were how to wipe your bottom properly.
Knowing how to wipe yourself is also very important, it's simple but you will be surprised how many people don't know which way is right.
Personal hygiene is so important and has an overall effect on how you are as person. If you feel clean and fresh you will feel happier and more confident.
We use a mixture of toilet tissue and toilet wipes in our house but 27% of people researched say wipes are for babies and toddlers.  We love using wipes, they are a great way to help you feel that extra bit cleaner.
The Andrex Clean Report shows us an easy to follow 5 step process on using the bathroom and you can find out more information by visiting Andrex

Bedroom Makeover AGAIN

Last spring while big J was away on a school trip Daddy and I completely made over his bedroom. Well Daddy did most of it because I was 38 weeks pregnant. Daddy painted it, bought a new bed and furniture and it looked amazing. Flash forward 15 months and it looks like it had never been done.

There are marks all over his walls, these look like crayon marks but its actually his computer chair rubbing on the paintwork.
The wooden frame at the bottom of his bed has chips in it and he has managed to break the slats that he lies on.
So I'm thinking over the summer it's time to go paint and bed shopping and try and make his bedroom look fabulous again.
I recently came across Bedz R Us and they do a great range of beds. There are just so many beds to choose from.
I am thinking maybe he will like a nice single bed that turns into a double so he can have friends sleep over.
I really like this one it's called Thuka Trendy 8 Guest Bed. It fits in with the colour in big J's room and I like the idea that another bed rolls out underneath.
There are add ons you can purchase separately too.
A clip on table
a night light
storage box
It has a 5 year warranty and has a fast free next working day delivery service if ordered before 12pm.
I also had a little peek at a new bed for us but Daddy says we don't need one. I always love the thought of a new bed, nice and cosy snug.
If I was going to choose one, it would be something like this. Galaxy Storage Double Bed.

I love the fact you can store lots underneath.

But for now we are concentrating on getting big J's room done. Its a good idea to paint over the summer because you can open all your windows and doors and the paint will dry quicker.

I'm hoping he will take care when its all finished and there are no dirty handprints or other stains on the walls too soon but I suppose boys will be boys.

Happy 1st Birthday Prince George

Where does the time go? Today Prince George is celebrating his first birthday.  I couldn't actually believe a year has gone by since he was born.
I think Kate and William are excellent parents and I love seeing photos of them all together as a family. Kate has done a brilliant job as a new mummy and gets stuck in like the rest of us. She really reminds me of Diana and I hope she stays that way. Prince George always looks so happy and content
It did get me thinking about time and how time really does fly. Before I know it little J will be starting nursery and my big J will be starting year 8.
I am looking forward to spending the summer holidays with my two monkeys. I love spending quality time with them both and even though the age gap is 11 years we always find somewhere or something that suits them both.
Its so important to treasure every minute because before you know it they are not little ones anymore.
Happy Birthday Prince George

Guilt Free Snacking with Slim Fruits

Three weeks ago I decided it was time for me to try and slim down. Over the years I have genuinely struggled with my weight and at my heaviest I was almost 4 stone over weight. I could write that I have struggled due to pregnancies and not being able to lose baby weight but I honestly think it's down to portion sizes, snacking and lack of exercise.
If someone mentions diet or cut down food I instantly want to eat and it's all I can think about and I reach for the snack cupboard.
I was recently sent Slim Fruits to try and because I am trying to cut down on my snacks I agreed to give them a go.
Slim fruits are Sugar Free, Fat Free, High Fibre pastilles.
I wasn't to sure whether I would like them at first but I am always keen to give something a try and I never say never.
I was sent 2 flavours luscious rhubarb and strawberry and luscious Peach Melba.
Each box has 5 servings and each serving is 5 pastilles.
I looked at the nutrition information and it looked okay but when I compared it to my usual sweet snack I got a shock.
Each box is 24g but I could only really compare both sweets by the Per 100g
Slim fruits has 205kcal my usual sweets 400kcal
Slim fruits has 0.2g of Sat Fat and my usual sweets 6.8g
Slim fruits has 0.2g of sugars my usual sweets 58g

As you can see above the sugar content in my usual sweets is ridiculously high and I honestly didn't even know.
5 pastilles is 10kcals so the total kcal in each box is 50kcals.
So after comparing the kcals and fat content it was time to try them. I was hoping they would be at least edible and they were, they are actually very tasty.
The pastilles are flat and look like a jelly but have the texture of a wine gum. They are really juicy and I honestly love them.
I love the rhubarb flavour it tastes like those hard boiled sweets Rhubarb and Custard.

They come in a little black box and perfect for your pocket or bag. Flip lid so you can just take what you want and it fastens shut.

In the past 3 weeks I have lost 7lbs so I am thrilled.
I am going to continue to use Slim Fruits alongside cutting down and exercising and I am hoping to keep a weight loss blog so will keep you all updated.
Slim Fruits are available in Boots and Holland and Barrett stores nationwide. They are priced at £1.89 per pack.
To keep up to date with all the latest information check out Slim Fruits on Facebook and Twitter.
* I was sent slim fruits to try in return for a honest review. all thought above are my own*
