The App Map Of Britain

Edit this post

We all use apps every day.  Lots of apps, on lots of different devices doing lots of different things. Carphone Warehouse have compiled an app map of Great Britain, shortlisting the most used apps in 2016 with lots of different variables from location, age, sex, earnings and lots of others including the top used apps in the entire British Isles.

The map really does give an interesting insight into the usage of apps and shows how many of the 2 million plus apps that are available on the App Store and for Android are actually used. I wasn't hugely surprised by the top 10 overall, but once you add the extra dimension of location or age the results really did surprise me.

What I'm Saving For In 2017

Edit this post

As I write it's 186 days until Christmas and for those that think it's too early to start thinking of the 'big day' then you may be wrong. Yesterday Argos announced their predictions for the toys that will be on the top of children's Christmas lists this year. I am like a 'big' kid when it comes to Christmas as it usually means that my favourite brands will be releasing some new gadgets. If you have read any of our previous tech posts, then you will know that I do love my gadgets, and it's no surprise that these 3 below will make up my most wanted gifts for Christmas 2017.

Our Top Five Takeaway Apps

Edit this post
*collaboration
Its nearly time to decorate our home ready for the Christmas celebrations. We have a tradition that every year on decoration day, we will tidy up, then get the decorations from the loft. After that the usual ornaments and pictures take their turn up in the loft for a month or so, and then the decorating begins. At about the time we are sorting the teddies and ornaments, we will usually order a takeaway meal to be delivered. Now I remember when we first started the tradition of decoration day we would go out for something to eat, but we would find ourselves short of time and rushed. Over the years that we have been ordering in I think that Pizza has been the most popular choice, but then is that because until recently Pizza was one of the only things you could get delivered?

TechSavvyDad Tuesday - S+ by ResMed Review

Edit this post

Sleep. Does anyone ever get enough these days? I know that being a dad to two boys, one a toddler and one a teen, there is a huge differential in the times that they sleep. Little J is often asleep by 6pm and up again ready for the next day at 5am whereas Big J will be in bed by 10pm on a school night and much later at weekends. I get to sleep in-between these times but generally I have some ‘Dad’ time that means actually I think I average around 6 hours each night. I know that's not enough, but how can we monitor and improve our sleep? I have tried a few apps from the google play store over the years, with mixed results. I have never stuck to one app to try to improve my sleep as I haven’t yet been convinced that any of them actually work. I have been trying the S+ by ResMed to try and improve my sleep.

Epic Moments From The Middle Earth Collection

Edit this post

This week I have noticed that Christmas is already everywhere. Shops, adverts on TV, Online ads, you can’t get away from it and its not even 5th November yet. This got me thinking about some of the traditions we have at home for Christmas, one of which is to watch the extended editions of all three Lord Of The Rings movies, we attempt this usually in one epic sitting when Little J and Big J are having their Christmas day out with their grandparents.

TechSavvyDad Tuesday - August Multiroom Wireless Airplay Speakers Review

Edit this post

Recently we got the chance to review some wireless airplay speakers from August. We have purchased August products before including headphones and a TV box and they were both really good so we were very excited to test out the speakers. As I am useless with technology I asked Daddy and he has kindly reviewed them so I will hand you over to Daddy now.

TechSavvyDad Tuesday - Stranger Things on Netflix

Edit this post

You may have seen that we have been tweeting about the latest Netflix original series ‘Stranger Things’.  We have now finished watching series 1, and absolutely cannot wait for the second series. For those who haven’t read anything about the series, I will attempt to explain how good it is, without any spoilers, so feel free to read on if you haven’t yet seen it.  Throughout the series I was convinced it must have something to with Stephen King. The way the story is written, the characters, the feel of the series.  It appears I am wrong as the series has been written by the Duffer brothers, although there is a cursory nod to King in one of the episodes where one of the leads likens the events to a Stephen King novel, so maybe a little thanks for the inspiration. Or is there a pseudonym at work here?

Keeping Your House Secure With Piper

Edit this post
Piper has just been released to the UK market and we have been trying it out. Piper is a home security system which basically puts you in control. You set up the rules and you monitor any activity.

The Piper device is equipped with a motion detector, microphone, a siren that is so loud it could wake up the whole street, and a back up battery for peace of mind and constant protection.

Once you have plugged in The Piper you connect to your smart device (iOS or Android). From there you set up the rules.

Free Shopping Using Cashback Apps

Edit this post
I like to think I'm quite savvy when it comes to shopping. It's very rare we will go food shopping without it being planned beforehand. There are so many ways to save money on your weekly shop and if you give it a little thought you can save a lot.

Wallet iPhone Case thanks to Mobile Madhouse

Edit this post
I was offered the chance to review a new iPhone case over the last week from Mobile MadHouse. I already have a phone case but I wanted to choose something I've never had before so I picked iPhone wallet case. This makes a superb alternative for when you are out and about and have only pockets to keep your things in.

Mr Nutcase Personalised Phone Case Review

Edit this post
When I am out and about I like to make sure I have some nice photos of the two boys with me. Mummy had been given the opportunity to review 'Mr Nutcase' personalised phone cases, and while I wasn't sure that it would be to my taste (as I am far too fussy when it comes to gadgets and their accessories, normally going for Apple or Samsung only) I thought I would have a look at the site and see what I thought.
