Our Yummy Degustabox Delivery

As always we really look forward to receiving our monthly Degustabox because you just never know what you are going to get. I love surprises and usually within a few minutes of the box being opened something usually catches the eye of big and little J. This month was no exception.

Our April box contained

Canderel
Candler Sugarly - Tastes like sugar but with zero calories. We actually needed sweeteners so instead we decided to give it a go. It's almost gone already because we have used it in everything. Our tea, coffee and even sprinkled on our cereal

RRP - £3

Pimms
Putting us in the mood for Summer and Wimbledon the Pimms Cider had a hunt of strawberries and cucumber. I wasn't sure at first but it has a kick to it, delicious.

RRP - £2.29

Popchips
We have tasted pop chips before but they have just introduced two new delicious limited edition flavours. Sea salt, garlic and rosemary and sea salt, caramelised onion and thyme.

RRP - £1.99

Rejuvenation Water
There is usually some sore of water or juice product in Degustabox and over the months we have found some amazing brands we have never heard of and this is one of them.

RRP - £1.99

Veetee
Veto rice is the only rice we buy so we were familiar with this brand already. However we have never tried wholegrain so it was nice to give that a go, we usually stick to plain basmati.

RRP - £1.49/£1.29

Levi Roots
I've seen this brand in the supermarket many times but never bought. Looking forward to giving the Coat 'n' Cook a try.

RRP - £1

Bebeto
Bebeto Fruit Strings have been a hit here. They won product of the year for the innovative use of fruit juice and reduced processed sugars. They are yummy.

RRP - £1.99

Parle
I've never heard of this brand until we received other items a few months ago in a Degustabox. It's strange as they are the largest selling biscuit brand in the world but since we got them in the box I've noticed them.

RRP - 25p/89p

Green Lady
Just like the water we usually have some sort of tea product. I usually give them to my Dad as he loves them.

RRP - £1.99

Milkybar and Smarties
It's probably obvious that both boys dived straight for these. The new Milkybar and Crunchy was a hit with little J and big J took the smarties although little J ate most of that too.

RRP - £1 / £1.29

As always we are so pleased with this months Degustabox. You can buy a Degustabox at any time although it is a monthly box you can purchase for however long you wish.

If you fancy giving it a go you can claim £6 off by using BLDEG15

August Degustabox Review

I am genuinely excited to be reviewing Degustabox again this year. I absolutely love the idea of receiving a box full of food / drink surprises each month. When we last reviewed Degustabox we found quite a few brands that we either hadn't heard of or hadn't tried yet so it was nice to explore new foods.

Early Father's Day Meal At Brewers Fayre

If you are a regular reader you will know that we do like going out for meals at our local Brewers Fayre. As Father's Day is approaching we popped along for an Early Father's Day Meal. If you have visited a Brewers Fayre before you will know that they offer a variety of Menus. A normal menu with pub meals, Chef's Counter Menu and a Kids Menu.

When we have the kids with us we almost always choose Chef's Counter. Its a buffet style menu that starts at 5pm with a different theme every night of the week. It includes Burger and Hotdog night, Mexican, Curry and on Fridays it is Chip Shop Buffet Night.

Beer52 Delivered To Your Door

You can get so much stuff now delivered to your door in the form of subscription boxes. I absolutely love the idea because whether its clothes, food, beauty products or beer they give you the opportunity to try out new ranges or brands you may not have heard of before. Beer 52 is a beer subscription box but like most you can cancel anytime and its free delivery too. I have a special £10 off code further down so don't miss that.

We were sent a box of 8 beers recently to try out and although I am not a beer drinker, Daddy is and he was really pleased.

Here's how it works

Beer 52 expert beer tasters sample the most cutting edge beers from around the world. Some make it, some don't. They will only choose the best and their favourites go into the beer52 monthly boxes.

Beer52 will send you 8 different small batch brews each month to try and love.

When our beers arrived we hadn't heard of any of them but that's the point of the boxes really. Its to discover beers you wont find in the supermarket.

All 7 bottles and the 1 can went straight into the fridge for Daddy to sample over the coming days and weeks.

Daddy is really set in his ways and usually just buys the one brand of beer and he doesn't really look at anything else when we go supermarket shopping. So it was nice for him to have a few different beers to try.

There are 4 plans to choose from

You can also add snacks, smokes or spirits to your boxes too.

If you did fancy treating a friend or family to a months subscription to Beer52 just visit the website HERE and click on the I've got a special code link. Enter MONKEYS10 into the box and you will get £10 OFF your box so it will be just £14 if you choose the monthly plan.

Daddy really enjoyed trying them all and he would definitely buy from Beer52 again.

I think its such a great idea and with Christmas around the corner it would make a lovely Christmas gift. I know a few people who would like this and I wouldn't hesitate in ordering them a box to try.

Chang to get the season started.

As the football season has just begun the boys have gone football mad well Everton mad to be precise. Both Daddy and big J are big Everton Fans and have just purchased the new kits and Daddy has been enjoying the Everton sponsor Chang beer.

Chang is a Thai beer that became so popular for its unique quality it became the number one selling Thai beer in its home country.
Due to the popularity of the brand Chang was exported to other countries worldwide and became the sponsor for the football club Everton.
Daddy is a fan of Chang and has had a pint when watching Everton play at home. It is available to buy within the Goodison Park on match days and can also be found in supermarkets to enjoy at home.

Chang is recognised by its Elephant symbols, in fact Chang actually means Elephant in Thai.

The Elephant represents superior strength and mental capacity and the two white elephants on the bottle symbolise happiness, harmony and prosperity.

Chang have created a Beertails this summer and you can view below my favourite of the recipes perfect for end of summer BBQs

Chang syrup recipe

1 bottle of Chang Beer

Higher Living Tea

I do like a nice cup of tea but I am boring when it comes down to it. I don't usually try anything other than my normal teabags. When we go to a coffee shop I see all different types of teas on the menu but I just stick to a normal cup.

I was sent some Higher Living teabags or teapees as these are called recently and I plucked up the courage to give them a try.

Higher Living have been blending herbs for over 45 years so they definitely know what they are doing when it comes to make a refreshing cup of tea.

All ingredients are natural and organic.

Higher Living is a British company and all teapees are biodegradable.

Higher Living Green Tea Coconut.

I gave this a try first because I like coconut. I had a read of the packaging and it says

Organic Green Tea Coconut is an exotic combination of green tea and coconut.

Delicious and distinctive tea blend that is both smooth and sweet.

When I opened the packet I tried not to look at the teabag because it looked like it was full of grass and twigs.

The instructions said to use one teapee for a cup, two for a mug. I used one. Poured over the boiled water and left for five minutes as instructed.

After getting over the shock of taking a sip of green tea I actually quite enjoyed it. The coconut flavour was present but not as strong as I would have thought. It was really delicious and refreshing and a drink I would buy.

Higher Living Power

This one sounds interesting Power. I instantly thought strong with this one.

When I read the combination of herbs it has Gingko, Ginseng and Yerba Mate which together give it a powerful, tasty punch to last you through the day.

The smell of this reminded me of my Mums roast dinner. My Dad would always have mint sauce and although there is no mint in this teapee that was the first thing I thought of.

Same instructions as before. I waited 5 minutes to give it a try.

I took a sip of this and thought 'wow' it had a kick to it and would definitely wake you up in the mornings. It was ok and I did finish it but if I had to choose between the two I would go for the coconut.

I know how popular these type of teas are at the moment and it has definitely given me confidence to experiment with some more flavours. I wouldn't choose to drink one every day but definitely at least a few times a week.

You can purchase the above teapees as well as many other flavours by visiting the Higher Living Shop Online priced at £4.79 for 15 teapees.

Surprised by Aldi Tipples

We were recently sent a variety of tipples from Aldi and I have to be honest and say I was really surprised with just how nice they were.

I don't usually shop at Aldi so I hadn't seen their range of beers, wines and spirits but since I was sent some samples I had a browse online and I cannot believe just how big the selection available is.

I am not a big drinker and neither is Daddy although we do like a little weekend drink or two ;)

If I was to choose my favourite tipple it would be Baileys. It can be quite costly if you don't find it on offer in the supermarket so when I was sent an Irish Cream from Aldi I was looking forward to giving it a try.

Ballycastle Irish Cream Liqueur was really delicious. It didn't taste exactly like Baileys but it came pretty close. I had it over ice and I really enjoyed it. I usually pay around £15-£18 for Baileys and this is just £4.39 for 70cl which is a huge difference.

As you can see from the photo above its has won awards and I would definitely give it a Thumbs Up.

I will  be buying this next time I need to purchase a bottle because for me it was almost like drinking Baileys and at a 1/3 of the cost.

We were sent Brasserie Bière Blonde Lager for Daddy to try. He liked these and as they are only 250ml they are perfect for a light drink after work, a summer night or BBQ.

2.6% vol and priced at just £1.99 for a pack 8, which is only 25p a bottle.

These were Daddy's favourite. Brasserie Premium French Lager. Although these are 4.6% vol, Daddy still said they were light, refreshing and a perfect summer nights drink.

Priced at just £3.49 for a pack of 10

Daddy has asked me to put these on my shopping list :)

We were also sent two bottles of wine which we haven't tried yet but once we do will add below what we thought.

French Pinot Noir
French Pinot Noir

This is described as soft, smooth & fruity with rich red fruit aromas & lush berry flavours.

Priced at just £4.69 and again an award has been given for this.

Limestone Coast Chardonnay
Limestone Coast Chardonnay

I am looking forward to trying this one. Its described as rich and intense with tastes of honeysuckle, white peach and fresh pineapple. Sounds delicious.

Priced at £5.99 with three awards above.

I am so glad we received the above tipples because I have to admit Aldi wasn't a shop I would think about buying alcohol from but that's obviously changed now.

Its also made me think about other items that I might be able to purchase which are similar to brands I normally buy but for less.
