Days Out | Play Expo Returns To Manchester

28 April 2019

It's been five years since our last visit to PLAY Expo but we are excited to be heading back next weekend to the North’s biggest video games event, as it returns to Manchester for the seventh time on May 4 and 5. Taking place in a new, bigger venue, PLAY Expo will be held at Manchester Central Exhibition Centre and will welcome over 25,000 video gamers through the doors for two days of gaming brilliance.

We are a family of gamers here and have been as long as I can remember. I don't think a day goes by without one of us playing a video game on the XBox One, PS4 or Nintendo Switch. PLAY Expo has  over 1,000 screens to play for free so it’s the perfect day out for games enthusiasts like us.

Suitable for all ages, PLAY Expo has everything from blockbuster game previews to indie games, retro classics, eSports, cosplay, escape rooms, education, live shows, industry panels and YouTuber meet and greets.

PLAY Expo Manchester boasts in excess of 1,000 gaming consoles, handhelds, PCs, arcade and pinball machines, all playing the very best in new and classic video games – and all set too free to play. John really enjoyed playing the pinball machines last time we visited and found his favourites Addams Family and Terminator.

Little J will be excited to hear that PLAY Expo also features a huge Minecraft zone and Fortnite zone, two of his favourite games.

On the Expo stages you will find talks from gaming celebrities, cosplay displays and tournaments for gamers of all skill levels. You will also find immersive live experiences, including John Robertson’s critically acclaimed ‘The Dark Room’ and ‘Knightmare Live’, the celebrated stage adaptation of the 80s-90s cult TV show Knightmare.

Tickets cost: Adults £20, Child £14, Family (2 adults, 2 children) £58 per day or Adults £34, Child £24, Family £96 for the Weekend ticket and can be bought from PLAY Expo Manchester. Knightmare Live costs £10 and The Dark Room costs £5 per person.

Play Expo at Manchester Central Exhibition Centre is easy to access via public transport with direct transport links available including Metrolink tram stop, nearby train stations and bus routes.

We can't wait to visit again and I look forward to updating you on what we got up too soon.
