Slimming World | A Basic Guide

I've decided to start Slimming World to help kick start my weight loss / eating healthier journey and I have just completed week one. They say the first week is the hardest but I am just so happy to be eating normal food after over indulging over Christmas that I've actually enjoyed it.

I've joined Slimming World online which isn't for everyone as I know some people prefer going to class, and need to for motivation but I am happy with online for now.

Registering was easy and within a few minutes I was a member. Online gives you access to everything you need to follow the plan and there is an app too so that you check your progress and do food searches on the go.

For those that don't know what Slimming World is I will give you a quick guide. Slimming World is a healthy eating plan and if I am honest I can't call it a diet because you can eat....lots!

Free Food is a whole range of food that you can have unlimited portions of and because it's so low in calories you actually can lose weight. Free foods include meat, poultry, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruit

Every day you have an allowance of Healthy Extras and Syns. Healthy Extras give your body the vital vitamins, minerals and fibre you need. Healthy Extra choices include wholemeal bread and breakfast cereals for fibre, and milk and cheese for calcium.

Each day I enjoy two Healthy Extra A's which provide me with calcium and one Healthy Extra B choice which is for fibre.

Syns are for there for you so that you can eat foods that are not free or a healthy extra. You can choose to have between 5-15 syns per day.
I think it is really important to use a food diary or journal to write down what you are eating. I use a food diary which I bought online.

So as I said earlier I have just completed my first week and I lost 4lbs. I'm really happy with my loss and it has definitely given me the much needed kick up the bum I needed.

I will keep you all updated on my progress and will be adding lots of recipes and more tips for making Slimming World a success for you.

  1. Good luck with the journey. I'm on my own devised soup for lunch and no snacks eating plan! It's so hard over Christmas isn't it? Too much cheese...and cake...and chocolate etc!
