Learning To Love My Body

I wrote a post recently about when we take little J to the swimming pool it is mostly dad's in the water with the kids. Whenever I look around it is mainly women watching from the viewing area, me included.  I know how much little J enjoys swimming and going to our local pool so I have promised to make more of an effort and visit the pool with him.

I have to say that I have never been a fan of the water and because the boys and John like it so much I have never felt like they needed me, so I never really got involved with that type of activity.  I have never been very confident in the water although I can swim a little and I know if I needed to I could get us out of danger if that ever occurred. Probably the main reason for me avoiding trips to the pool in the past has been my body. After my pregnancies and other reasons including my love for food, my body wasn't something I was proud of so I didn't like showing it off in swimwear. Then a few months ago I realised that this is my body, this is who I am and I should be proud of that and what my body has achieved over the years.

With our holiday planned I have taken the plunge and started to browse the plus size swimwear range on Simply Swim. I have always opted for a one piece swimsuit that has a little skirt or shorts attached to hide the top of my thighs but this year I have decided against that and I have started to see my body in a more positive light. There are some really pretty and colourful swimsuits available perfect for my holidays, so for once in a long time I am excited about visiting the pools whilst we are away.

I need to understand that no one will be interested in looking at me while we are away. Everyone is doing their own thing having a great time and so should I. I have seen so many features recently about body positivity and how we should all be proud of who we are and what we look like. It's taken me a long time but I do think I am finally there.

So this Summer I am looking forward to taking little J to the pool and all I need to worry about is having a good time.
