Not Just A Mummy Or Daddy - My Story

When you become a parent everything changes. You don't seem to get the time to do anything. When I had big J it was the day before my 22nd birthday. I didn't have any hobbies I just enjoyed doing 'couple' things with Daddy. Whether it was going the cinema or for a meal we just enjoyed doing stuff together.

When big J arrived it was almost impossible to do those simple things as it took so much planning and effort to find a babysitter so we had to think of something else we enjoyed that we could just pick up and do in our spare time. Parenting is a full time job but you do have to squeeze a little bit of 'me' time in there too.

Winning Things Money Can't Buy

I was first introduced to Loquax when I was 18. If you don't already know Loquax is a competition website. I was a little overwhelmed when I first started comping as I had no idea just how many competitions where out there. At the time I entered a few here and there but only took it serious when little J was a baby. I would enter thousands and thousands of competitions each week, it is a very addictive hobby especially when you are winning.

The first competition I won was to see Steps in Concert. I was only 18 at the time and I loved Steps so it was a dream come true. When I won my second competition I think that was the point when I thought 'wow, this is a great hobby'

I had won the chance to go to the BBC to watch the Lottery draw. Westlife who were just about to release their second single were performing on the show and the prize included a backstage party and meet and greet with the band.

You cannot believe how excited my friend and I was as we got ready to meet the band. All the way to Manchester we giggled at the thought of meeting someone famous. To be honest they were really nice lads, down to earth and we had a great night.

I think when you win a 'money can't buy' prize like that you become hooked instantly and it becomes an obsession to enter and hopefully to win.

For me I wasn't just winning the odd DVD or book I was winning big prizes, expensive prizes and not just now and again I was winning almost a prize a day.

We have received so many amazing prizes over the years it would be impossible to list them all but for obvious reasons my ultimate favourite prize was a all expenses trip to Disneyland Paris including a private party. This was just a dream come true and we had an amazing time. On the Saturday night the park closed and we were invited to stay longer to enjoy the rides to ourselves, attend a private party with fireworks. It was definitely a 'money can't buy' experience so you can imagine how thrilled we were to win again the following year.

We have also won weekends away, TV's, a holiday to ibiza, vouchers, all sorts.

It's a hobby that is so easy to do but it is very time consuming and since having my blog I have entered less and less. I really want to get back in to my hobby as you just never know what will turn up at the door.

  6. I used to be a serious comper too although never won a holiday further than a theatre weekend in the Savoy, and a weekend in Barcelona. Like you, comping doesn't happen any more because blogging takes over. I really should get back to it if only for the items I really want or need to win!

  23. Comping isn't something I really do. I'll enter the odd one when reading blogs and have won a couple of nice prizes so perhaps I should take the time to enter a few more.
