5 Reasons To Get A Dehumidifier For Your Home

Daddy and I have been thinking about giving our home a makeover. It's in desperate need of a  Spring  Autumn clean. There are a few items we want to get too including a fan. Our home gets so warm during the evenings and I suspect we may have an Indian Summer so I am expecting it to be warm in September. Also we want a Dehumidifier. I actually didn't even know these excited until recently but after reading the benefits we want one. They are a cheap but excellent addition to your home. They come in different sizes and can stop many problems.

Here are five reasons to get a dehumidifier for your home.

1. Say Goodbye To Dust Mites

Daddy suffered from asthma when he was younger and although it doesn't flare up often it does tend to make an appearance during the winter months. I'm not sure whether its because we don't have the window open enough or whether its something else such as dust mites. Dust mites can cause asthma flare ups and a whole host of allergies; they are a nuisance that people don’t often consider. A dehumidifier will help to rid your home of these pesky critters, allowing you to breathe more easily and protecting you from allergies.

2. Insect Repellent

I am not a fan of anything crawling so if a dehumidifier can help eliminate them then it gets a big thumbs up from me. Most houses are filled with little corners where insects can thrive. A dehumidifier is a powerful tool to combat this problem. For small spots like a bathroom or closet a small dehumidifier will be powerful enough to get rid of these insects. You can even find humidifiers for laundry rooms, where they can make a huge improvement.

3. No More Mould

We have never suffered from mould but I know it can be a nuisance; it can be damaging to health, damaging to clothes and produces an unpleasant musty smell. Some mould can have serious consequences for your health, so check out your house now! A dehumidifier will stop the mould from growing, but if you want to kill any that is already there then use some bleach on the area.

4. Save Money On Energy Costs

Air conditioning units have to work harder when a room is humid. Humidity means an air conditioning unit needs to cool the air and remove the moisture. When you use a dehumidifier the air conditioning unit needs to do less, so your monthly energy bill will be reduced, and your air conditioning unit will also last longer – so that’s a double win

5. Stall Rusting And Warping

Condensation will rust metals and warp door frames, resulting in doors that don’t close properly and the accelerated and costly erosion of metal tools. Even if tools are kept in the garage, a small dehumidifier should be enough to create an environment to stop them rusting and prolong their useful life

As you can see, there are many potential problems caused by humidity. Luckily, a small investment in a dehumidifier can save you from having these issues in your home.

Do you have a dehumidifier? Do you have any other reasons or tips to buy one?
