How To Keep The Kids Happy In The Garden

I've never been one of those people that enjoy gardening or even sitting out in the garden but last year I found myself out there with little J more than I would have expected. Like his brother he loves the garden and just being out in the fresh air. We haven't really got a big garden but its always suited our needs and little J is usually out there at least once a day at the moment.

I still not 100% comfortable being in the garden but I am trying. I don't like bugs, spiders, bees, wasps or any other crawlies. So I have found it hard that little J loves being outside so much. I love sitting watching him play and will join in as much as I can. I even got on the trampoline with him this week which is a first. I did notice a bug on the net but I just ignored it. So while I'm still getting used to overcoming my fear and to help keep him busy and entertained there are a few things we have bought although he is just as happy mooching around, picking up stones and even chilling on the chairs.

The main thing we needed was a new Trampoline. Our old one has been in the garden for years and big J would play on it all the time. It was old and worn and definitely past it. We did put little J on the old trampoline just to see if he liked it before we bought a new one and he did. He absolutely loves bouncing, playing with a ball or messing around with big J.

Looking Back 2014

A swing was another purchase we wanted to make as he does love the swing when we go to parks or play areas but actually in the garden he hasn't been too fussed. He will play on it but very briefly. I guess there better things he could be doing so decides to get off very quickly.

We bought a Slide a few weeks ago and again this was mainly because he loves them so much when we are out and about. I am pleased to say that he is more than happy to climb up and slide down all day if I let him. He also likes to roll items down such as balls and cars.

We have some pavement chalk which is great for big and little J. They both love drawing on the floor, the walls, the fence, anything that they can get their hands on. It brightens up the garden and it soon washes off if it rains so they can start again.

Looking Back Summer 2014

Another favourite of big J's is water bombs and water guns. Big J loves getting wet. He will happily throw water bombs in the air so they land on his head. Little J is following in his footsteps and is a little monkey when it comes to water guns. He loves soaking everyone including my washing on the line.

Swimming Pool was probably our best buy last summer, the boys love it.

Little J has a paddle pool too just for him.

Playing with the ball

Probably the outdoor toy that gets used the most is the football. What a simple but amazing invention. Both boys and Daddy will play football out in the garden all day long. They love it. We have a goal so they take it in turns to be goalkeeper and either play passes, penalties or challenges.

Best Friends

Top of the list for keeping the boys happy and entertained whilst playing in the garden is each other. They love spending time out there together. Whether its on the trampoline, playing cars, playing in the water or just sitting enjoying lunch they have each other and its beautiful to see just how close they are and watching there relationship grow.

So although we haven't got the biggest or nicest garden it does provide my monkeys with lots of fun times and memories that will last forever.

  5. My garden is getting done up at the moment. Waiting for the turf to settle down. So we haven't had the chance for the girls to play properly. I cant wait until I can start buying things ready for the garden.

  6. Our problem is that the little wants to "help" no matter what we are doing. It's cute, but not always overly helpful

  8. It looks like your garden is an absolute blast! Lovely pictures of your boys enjoying it, they are very lucky. We're thinking about investing in a trampoline but there wouldn't be much space left for anything else! x

  12. Living in central London, we don't have much of a garden at all which is a real pity really because S loves the outdoors!! I think of Primrose Hill as our back garden because it's so close but it's not like we can have our own trampoline out there!! We do have one indoors though which S absolutely loves!! #toddlersandteens

  16. When we first moved in we had huge lavender bushes, I had to hack them all down as the amount of bees they attracted was ridiculous! Since having kids I find myself outside much more. I guess there was no reason before. Thank you for sharing in #Kidscorner x

  17. Your garden looks great! Ours is currently filled with a jungle of knotweed which is taking years to get under control. I can't wait for it to be cleared so the kids can go out there to play! Thanks for link up with the #summerdays linky xxx
