No world book day for us :(

On the school run this morning there were lots of children all dressed up going to school to celebrate world book day. All looking lovely and cute dressed as their favourite characters or whatever their parents could rustle up the night before.

After I dropped big J off it got me thinking how sad it is when they go to seniors. It doesn't seem that long ago that he was singing Christmas songs in the Nativity play or chanting 'come on everyone' on sports day.

I know it's just part of growing up but the transition from juniors to seniors is huge and it happens just in the six week holidays.

They go from playing outside 3 times a day to just hanging out at break and lunch. They go from taking a bag to school which is mostly empty but looks good to having a backpack bulging full of books, dictionary's, folders and pens.

It took big J a little while to get used to having a locker and moving from class to class but he has settled really well and enjoys his lessons..well most of them!

I guess as parents it probably takes us a little longer to get used to the fact that our little ones are all grown up. No more standing outside the classroom chatting to other parents while you wait for them to come out at home time or no more bringing squashed cakes in a food bag from bake a cake day.

I suppose we will all get used to it in the end and look forward to the new experiences having a child in seniors will bring.

We have got big J's first parent / subject teacher review soon so will see how that  goes :)

  5. Love those two pictures! It is bittersweet as they grow older. It's lovely to share new things, but definitely sad to lose some of the old. I guess that's parenting.
