Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3 Review

I cannot explain the mixed emotions I felt last week as we headed to the cinema to watch Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3. We are huge Marvel fans, have watched all the Marvel movies and have loved the previous Guardians movies and although I was very excited to see the latest instalment I was also sad that this is the last movie featuring our favourite intergalactic heroes all together.

guardians of the galaxy sign
All that I knew about the movie was that this was to be the final movie as the writer James Gunn has since left the MCU and jumped over to DC where he will continue making superhero movies but for a different franchise. I have stayed away from watching the extended trailers and skipped past recent reviews as Marvel movies are like marmite, you either love them or you hate them. Whilst I love all the Marvel movies I can see why some people take to the internet to say how cheesy, stupid and unrealistic they can be. To be honest thats what I love about them.

The storyline is based around Peter as he is still reeling from the loss of Gamora, but he must rally his team to defend the universe and protect one of their own. If the mission is not completely successful, it could possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them. James Gunn also hinted last year that this volume would also look at the back story of Rocket.

So What Did We Think? (without spoilers)
We were always going to love it. It could have been the worse film ever and we would still come out with a smile on our face. Luckily it wasn't the worse film ever in fact it was pretty amazing. It had a proper storyline and purpose which sometimes I think Marvel movies especially the stand alone movies can really lack. If you're a Guardians fan then you won't be disappointed and if you're not a Guardians fan go see it anyway as I think you may get a surprise.

The movie did hint that this would be the last of the Guardians as we know them which did bring tears to my eyes however the show must go on and with newer and younger Marvel characters popping up such as Kate Bishop, Spiderman, Ms Marvel to name a few I am looking forward to seeing where Marvel takes these characters although my heart will always be with the originals.

7 Must Watch Dawsons Creek Episodes - 25 Years Of Dawsons Creek

Whilst browsing Instagram last week I came across a post celebrating 25 years of Dawsons Creek. I had to read the post twice just to check as I couldn’t believe it has been 25 years since Dawsons Creek debuted on TV. Over the years I have watched Dawsons Creek many times and most recently was last year when I watched all 6 seasons again. Even at my age I absolutely love the show and know it will continue to be a firm favourite of mine for years to come.

dawsons creek cast

The show dealt with issues that teenagers and young adults could relate to such as love, forbidden love, friendships, sex, under age drinking, infidelity and death. After watching the show so many times I have lots of favourite episodes but here are my top 7 favourite Dawson Creek episodes.

dawsons creek cast

S01 Ep07 Detention
Loosely based on the movie Breakfast Club, Dawson, Joey, Jen and Pacey share their feelings for one another during a game of truth or dare in detention. We are introduced to the character Abby Morgan who has her heart set on making all four characters as uncomfortable as possible as she dares Jen to kiss Pacey, who then dares Joey to kiss Dawson.

S02 Ep07 The All Nighter
Introducing yet another new character in this episode Chris Wolfe. As the gang need to study for a test the next day Chris invites them to his what can only be described as a mansion to study. Dawson, Joey, Pacey, Andie and Jen pull an all nighter cramming for the test but some manage to have a little fun too.

S02 Ep11 Sex, She Wrote
Abby finds a sexy, discarded love letter and sets forth to find the author, Dawson's script revisions cause rumours to fly, and Pacey gives Andie the cold shoulder. Once again Dawson, Pacey, Jack, Andie, Joey and Jen are in the hands of Abby as she tries to solve who had sex the night before. Three possible encounters, Jen and Dawson, Joey and Jack or Pacey and Andie.

S02 Ep16 Be Careful What You Wish For
Joey plans a surprise birthday party for Dawson who is out with Pacey and Andie, having a night of recklessness and the blues. Lots happening in this episode including Jack coming out as gay, Dawson realising he is miserable without Joey and also the topic of under age drinking. Dawsons rendition of I've got the blues is epic!

S03 Ep20 · The Longest Day
In a story that replays the same day's activities from three different perspectives, Joey and Pacey go over the ways to tell Dawson about their feelings for each other. When the truth does come out, Dawson's reaction is not the one they'd hoped for. Meanwhile, Andie, who thought she was getting over Pacey, sees Capeside visitor Will, but their first date is ruined when she also learns about Joey and Pacey.

S05 Ep10 Appetite for Destruction
The group is thrown into disarray when Jen and Dawson return to Boston as a couple. While Joey attempts to deal with her feelings, Jen and Dawson face the scrutiny of their friends during an awkward dinner that Pacey cooks for Jen, Jack, Dawson, Joey and Audrey. The love 'square' between Dawson, Pacey, Jen and Joey never gets old!

dawsons creek
S06 Ep24 ...Must Come to an End
Dawson, Joey, Pacey, Jen and Jack come together in Capeside after five years for a wedding; a heartbreaking secret is revealed; Joey finally chooses between Dawson and Pacey. For me Joey definitely chose the right boy!

There really are so many more episodes I could have chosen. After reflecting back I have to say seasons 5 and 6 didn't really do much for me even though I did like Audrey and Eddie who were introduced once the gang headed to college.

Dawsons Creek was the first show I had watched where fans had a favourite who they championed throughout the series. Some would change there mind and flick between the two. Where you team Dawson or team Pacey? I was always Pacey.

I would love it if you shared your favourite episodes with me or favourite Dawsons Creek moments. Pop a comment below or tag us on socials.

Hocus Pocus 2 - Perfect Movie For Halloween

It's been over 29 years almost down to the day, but the witches are back, and there's hell to pay. Your wretched little lives have all been cursed because of all the witches working, they're the worst. They'll put and a spell on you and you will be glad they did. Hocus Pocus 2 debuted on 30th September 22 on Disney+ and it was definitely worth the wait. It's definitely the perfect movie for Halloween.

Hocus pocus party

Hocus Pocus 2 is set in Salem, 29 years after the first movie. It's All Hallows Eve and Salem is as busy as ever with a Halloween festival taking place that evening. It's also Beccas 16th birthday and along with her friend Izzy they do like to dabble in a little bit of witchcraft.  Gilbert the owner of the magic shop gives his regular customer Becca a gift to help her celebrate. As Becca and Izzy head to the forbidden woods their friend Cassie (the mayors daughter) is hosting a party without their fathers permission.

What looked like an innocent candle was actually 'the black flame candle' and once lit Becca and Izzy brought back The Sanderson Sisters, Mary, Sarah and Winnifred. Will this be The Sanderson Sisters last attempt of gaining eternal youth and immortality and if they do, at what cost?

I am always a little nervous when movies such as Hocus Pocus announce a sequel. Hocus Pocus is such an iconic popular movie even after almost three decades. It's our go to movie for Halloween and I wasn't sure if Hocus Pocus 2 would live up to the original. One thing I was excited about was that it was the original cast. I don't think anyone could replace Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler, and they probably wouldn't want to. Imagine trying to fill those shoes!

Before we watched it there were already some reviews popping up on line and seeing 2/5, 'far from bewitching' and a rotten tomatoes score of 61% I was even more nervous. We had all agreed to watch it together as a family. I had prepared a cinema at home evening which the boys love and I really wanted it to be good and for us all not to be disappointed. We weren't. We all loved it. It's such a great movie for Halloween with a decent storyline and an ending that was just everything and more. We laughed and I cried and I'm so glad Kathy, Sarah and Bette agreed to return as The Sanderson Sisters.

Did you watch Hocus Pocus 2? What did you think?  Leave us a comment below and let us know.

Thor Love and Thunder Review

As a huge Marvel fan I was really looking forward to the release of Thor Love and thunder. When it comes to the Thor movies I’ve never really understood where they fit in with the Marvel Universe. Obviously Thor is such an important character in The Avengers and Marvel movies in general however I always thought that they were a little stupid, the characters were silly and whether the script was actually supposed to be tongue and cheek, especially when you compare them To the Captain America and Iron Man movies. when they are I am serious movies especially Captain America. However I was looking forward to Thor Love and Thunder and it’s nice to have a new Marvel movie to get excited about.

Thor Love and Thunder

I’m not one for spoilers however Thor Love and Thunder did not disappoint I found it so funny, probably more funnier than it should’ve been. It was extremely cheesy and stupid in places, but it was great to see Chris Hemsworth play the character Thor again well and I absolutely loved the fact that the Guardians of the Galaxy featured in the beginning of the movie.

So a little bit of the film without giving too much away. Thor Love and Thunder begins with a recap of Thors life, snippets from his childhood and previous movies. Thor has been finding himself and is generally unhappy although still fighting and saving worlds. He reflects back on his time with Jane Foster. The one time in his life where he loved someone, was loved back and truly happy. His reflection doesn't last long as Thor and The Guardians of The Galaxy start to receive thousands of distress calls including one from Asgardian Lady Sif. Thor and The Guardians go their separate ways as Thor heads to save Sif and The Guardians go to try protect the galaxy.  Sith tells Thor about a 'God Butcher' who has been cursed and is travelling around the worlds slaughtering gods. Thor is next. Thor must stop the God Butcher and with the help Valkyrie, Korg and Jane Foster they set off to finish their mission.

Disney Pixar Lightyear Movie Review

Being huge Disney fans we were so excited when Disney announced they were making a new movie 'Lightyear'. Over the past few months we have seen small trailers for the movie and at the weekend we finally got to watch Disney Pixar’s Lightyear.  I usually don't look at reviews before we go to see a movie however some of the reviews were hard to miss as they hit social media last week. Unfortunately the reviews haven’t all been positive however I like to make my own mind up when it comes to movies and I am so glad we decided to go because we all loved it.

lightyear movie poster

If you are unsure where ‘Lightyear’ fits in to the Toy Story timeline then let me try and explain. In Toy Story Andy receives a Buzz Lightyear action figure for his birthday. What we never knew was where did Buzz come from? Was he just a random figure or was he based on something? Well when watching Lightyear we found out that Lightyear is the movie that Andy went to see way back in 1995. Buzz Lightyear merchandise was created because of the movie and that is why Andy wanted the action figure for his birthday. So Lightyear isn't a prequel to Toy Story however there are subtle nods back to the original movies.

Lightyear begins with Buzz being partnered with Alisha Hawthorne, his best friend on a special mission for space rangers. They have a really special friendship which see's them joke together and share memories of past missions. Alisha mocks Buzz constantly for recording captains logs in to the device on his arm, something we see in Toy Story when Buzz believes he's a real space ranger. Before each adventure Alisha and Buzz touch fingers and say 'To Infinity and Beyond'.

Buzz Lightyear, the movie character, is exactly the same as the Buzz figure in Toy Story. He's stubborn and believe he knows best. He constantly goes against the advice of his team and his ship’s autopilot navigator I.V.A.N. Because of his stubbornness the ship he’s flying crashes, marooning everyone on a hostile planet filled with killer vines and bugs. Buzz cannot live with his guilt so now makes it his mission to discover an energy source that will help them achieve hyperspace and get off the planet.

Can Buzz Lightyear achieve Hyperspace and if he does, at what cost? With the help of Sox a robot cat (who for me is the star of the movie) and 3 unlikely companions we see Buzz Lightyear on a space adventure which will see him come face to face with his arch enemy, Zurg and the race to finish his mission.

I would definitely recommend heading to the cinema to see Lightyear. It has a running time of 107 mins, fun for the family and ideal for fans of the character Buzz Lightyear.

Are you going to see Lightyear?  Leave us a comment below and let us know or if you have seen the movie, your thoughts. The Jungle Cruise Movie Review

Disclosure - We already have a Disney+ account through a previous collaboration. Our account has since been upgraded to include Premier Access to watch The Jungle Cruise. All thoughts, opinions and photographs are our own unless stated. This post contains affiliate links.

Friday 30th July saw the release of the new Disney movie The Jungle Cruise. It was released in both the cinema and on Disney+ Premier Access. We do usually love to head to the cinema to watch new releases however we haven't been to the cinema in over 18 months and would much rather create a cinema movie night at home these days.

Jungle Cruise

The jungle cruise ride at Magic Kingdom

Even though we are huge Disney fans, until 2017 we had no idea what The Jungle Cruise was. We boarded the cruise in the Magic Kingdom and had no idea what to expect. None of us had a clue what was happening and we left the boat feeling confused although the other passengers were thrilled and excited. There was a buzz in the air.

Now after seeing the movie The Jungle Cruise I definitely understand the ride now and know why it is so iconic.

The movie follows the story of Dr Lily Houghton and her brother MacGregor. They both head to South America in search of a skipper who can navigate a boat through the Amazon in search for a mythical tree which has flowers called 'Tears Of The Moon' which are said to have healing powers for all illnesses. They soon find Frank who offers jungle cruises to tourists. They set sail on the Amazon in search for the tree but soon realise they are not the only ones on this adventure. There are others searching for the Tears Of The Moon including long forgotten conquestadors, and as the film takes place in the time of World War I there are also soldiers in submarines looking for the same prize.
There are lots os surprises along the way, not least the story of Frank which I won't give away here.

I wasn't too sure about Emily Blunt being cast as Dr lily Houghton as she is already a popular Disney Character, Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins Returns however she does suit the role perfectly. Dwayne Johnson as Frank is a fun character full of corny jokes and I like the chemistry between him and Lily.

The movie has the same feel as Indiana Jones and also The Mummy. It's a family friendly comedy with lots of action and adventure.

Black Widow Movie Review And Where It Fits In The Marvel Timeline

Disclosure - We already have a Disney+ account through a previous collaboration. Our account has since been upgraded to include Premier Access to watch Black Widow. All thoughts, opinions and photographs are our own unless stated. This post contains affiliate links.

Wednesday 7th July saw the release of the new Marvel movie Black Widow. It was then available to watch on Disney+ via Premier Access from the 9th July 2021. Usually we would head to the cinema with a bucket full of popcorn to watch new releases however since all the recent restrictions we would much rather create a cinema movie night at home

Black Widow Movie Poster
We have been waiting for Black Widow to be released for a long time now as we are huge Marvel fans and Black Widow is such an interesting character, we couldn't wait to learn more about where she came from and how she actually became an Avenger.

I don't really like writing movie reviews as I would hate to spoil it for someone who hasn't watched the movie yet however there are a few things I wanted to share so thought I would write them for the Marvel fans out there.

Firstly the movie wasn't what I expected. For some reason I thought this movie was set in Natasha's past and we would be able to see her growing up and learn how and why she is who she is. The movie does touch on this and we do learn about her past however the whole movie is set right after Captain America - Civil War finishes. If you do like to watch the Marvel movies in chronological order then you would fit Black Widow in-between Civil War and Doctor Strange.

So whilst we did find out more about Natasha's past and some of her upbringing it is actually set when she is already an Avenger and on the run.

As a stand alone movie I really enjoyed it. It was action packed and everything you would expect from a Marvel Movie.

There are no guest appearances from any of the Avengers or other Marvel Characters. There are references to Captain America and Clint Barton however no cameos unfortunately.

The storyline ends where Black Widow heads off to try and rebuild the relationships that are broken after Civil War. The movies finishes with a cliff-hanger that makes us assume that it will continue to play out in the new upcoming Marvel mini series Hawkeye.

Black Widow Movie Poster

If you are a Marvel fan you won't be disappointed. If you do want to watch in the comfort of your own home then you can watch through Disney+ Premier Access which costs £19.99 on top of your monthly subscription. The movie is then yours to watch over and over.

Have Parental Control With Star On Disney+ | AD

Disclosure - This post is in collaboration with Disney+ however we are subscribers of the service already so any thoughts, opinions and photographs are our own.

We have been subscribers to Disney+ since it was DisneyLife and have watched it grow over the years to include Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, National Geographic and The Simpsons. Just when we thought it couldn't get any bigger, Disney+ also now includes Star and also new easy to use parental controls.

Boys watching TV

What Is Disney+
Disney+ is the streaming home for entertainment from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more. Disney+ brings you exclusive originals with new feature films, shows, short-form content, including the world's first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian - streaming only on Disney+. You can also watch the new Marvel mini series WandaVision.

As a Disney+ subscriber you have unlimited access to thousands of the Disney movies and shows that are completely advert free offering you a high-quality viewing experience with unlimited downloads on up to 10 devices.

What's New?
As mentioned Star on Disney+ was launched on 23rd February alongside a new feature for parental controls.

Parental Controls on Disney+

Parental Controls
Disney+ offers robust parental controls to ensure that Disney+ remains a suitable viewing experience for everyone in the family. We have three adults at home and little J who will be turning 8 soon so I was eager to find out how subscribers can set access limits on mature content and also create PIN-protected profiles to give us parents and guardians peace of mind.

Easy To Use
When opening Disney+ for the first time after the launch of Star on Disney+, subscribers will be asked
if they want to opt in to access mature content. This will change the content rating on their profile from 14+ to 18+. Opting in as an 18+ subscriber will give you the full content catalogue available within Star on Disney+. If you choose 'Not Now' your content will set to a rating of 14+, which gives you limited access to the Star catalogue on Disney+.

Once you decide to make the change and have full access to the Star catalogue on Disney+ you enter your password to confirm the change.

As I said earlier we are a household of 3 adults and 1 child and as every household is different Disney+ allows you to create up to seven profiles per account. This allows each profile to have a viewing experience tailored to their age.

When you click on the main account avatar there is an option to edit profiles. You can click on each profile to edit the content rating for each member of your family.

It was really easy to turn on parental controls, however this could not be done on our TV we had to do it from a mobile device or desktop. If you do need any help setting up the parental controls there is a short 1 minute video

Parental Controls on Disney+

The content rating options are 0+, 6+, 9+, 12+, 14+, 16+ and 18+. Content ratings provide guidance for parents and children on all TV series and movies. Each TV series and movie on Disney+ has been given a specific rating to offer a recommendation on its suitability.

I thought it would be a good idea to give an example of movies and series for each content rating.

0+ Disney Junior series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, The Sound oO Music
6+ Disney Pixar movie - Soul
9+ Disney Tim Burton movie Alice in Wonderland, We Bought A Zoo
12+ Marvel Series WandaVision
14+ Star on Disney+ original Big Sky
16+ Comedy movie Borat
18+ Drama Crime Series Sons of Anarchy

Kids Profiles
Kids profiles are also an option that can be selected on Disney+. These profiles are specifically designed to be used by a younger audience and feature a unique design and user experience. All content available in this profile has a content rating of 7 and below, and will not include any content that features a content advisory warning.

Kid Proof Exit
If your child decides to click to exit their kids profile the kids proof exit feature makes it harder to leave a kids profile with the addition of an exit question. This feature can be found under a new Parental Controls menu, within Settings and account verification will be required to turn this feature on.

Profile Pin
An extra feature to provide parents with peace of mind that their child will not access mature content now available with Star on Disney+ is a profile pin. Account holders can secure profiles set to an 18+ content rating with a profile pin.

After we had set up our Star on Disney+ access to 18+ it did ask us if we wanted to create a profile pin then however account holders can set a pin at any time under profile settings.

Star tile on Disney+

Star On Disney+
Now that you have set up your parental controls you can explore the whole new world of entertainment. Star is now fully integrated in to Disney+ and offers over 75 TV series, 280 movies and four Star Originals plus new content will be uploaded every week too.

Star has its own tile on the Disney+ home page. When you click it, it will bring up a choice of movies and series based on genre, featured or our favourite bingeable series

TV Series
When I saw the list of TV series that will be available my eye instantly went to Grey's Anatomy. Grey's is a favourite of mine and I know how popular the show is so I think this will be a very popular choice with the first 15 full series available to watch.

John is looking forward to X Files. He has been wanting to binge watch the series for years but never got round to it so that will definitely be on our 'to watch' list.

Grey's Anatomy and X Files are just 2 of over 75 series available including Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Modern Family, Glee and How I Met Your Mother to name a few.

Movies
280 new movies are available to with Star on Disney+ so you will never be stuck for something to watch. I have checked the whole list and there are so many to look forward to including Pretty Woman, Shallow Hal, Moulin Rogue, The Devil Wears Prada, Die Hard 2 and 275 more!

Originals
One of my favourite features of Disney+ is the originals available. Originals are exclusive to Disney+ and I am pleased to say that Star has an initial four originals of their own.

Crime thriller Big Sky
Love, Simon spin-off series Love,Victor
Adult animated sitcom Solar Opposites
Drama series Helstrom

How Much Does Star On Disney+ Cost?
Star on Disney+ is included in your Disney+ subscription. If you are already a subscriber, the Star on Disney+ content will be available from 23rd February 2021.

If you do not subscribe to Disney+, UK customers can subscribe for £7.99 per month, or £79.90 annually (annual price available at most retailers).

Create A Movie Night At Home

We have spent the last year trying to come up with different ways to keep busy while staying at home. It's hard to make things exciting when really all you want to do is go out for a meal, go to the cinema or just get out of the house. Last week I stumbled across Odeon At Home and I thought it would be perfect way to entertain the kids during half term.

snacks

Odeon At Home has everything you need to prepare your home into an  Odeon experience. To get started we downloaded the PDF of the at home kit and created our Odeon at Home.

First pretend to work at the Odeon by popping on your name badge and also your favourite film. My favourite film changes all the time so I would struggle to fit just one on there.

Create the viewing screen by labelling your TV/Projector with Screen 1 and write the name of the movie you are going to watch next to Showing.

Odeon at home ticket

Then you need to create the tickets. The PDF includes 4 ticket stubs but if you need more you can just print out another sheet.

Once we created the viewing area it was time to sort out snacks. Usually at the cinema you would have a choice of hotdog, nachos, popcorn, pick and mix and drinks. We had lots of fun creating the Food and Drinks section of our cinema.

First we started with the drinks. Little J got a slush puppy machine for Christmas and John has just mastered how to make the perfect slush so this was definitely on the menu. We ordered some Coca Cola Cups from amazon which were perfect not to big or small, they were 400ml.

Hotdogs on baguettes and nachos were easy enough to make and again we ordered the trays and hot dog holders from Amazon. The nachos were lightly salted Doritos and I had read lots of reviews saying the Riccos Nacho Cheese Sauce is just like the cinema. You can buy it in Costco however we ordered it from Amazon. The sauce did not disappoint.

Part of the print off is make your own popcorn boxes. These were actually really easy to buy and there was no need to use cardboard, paper worked just fine.

I popped a few tubs of pick and mix on the table with spoons so the boys could pick their own or add to their popcorn.

Boy sitting on the sofa

Last but not least it was time to watch the movie, but before that we enjoyed an introduction from Odeon and then a selection of trailers from upcoming movies. This is available via a link which you can type in direct on your TV if it has access to the internet. This really made us feel like we were at the cinema and it was quite emotional listening to the voiceover that we have heard so many times in the past at our local Odeon. It made us all realise just how much we have missed going to the cinema.

The movie night was a success and with the added extras it really did feel like we were at the cinema.
