Alphabet Dating - G is for The Greatest Showman

John and I have decided to do alphabet dating again this year though we are not doing the letters in order as it gets too complicated however we will only do a letter twice in a whole year. Our first alphabet date was to go and see The Greatest Showman in the Gallery at Odeon. I am a sucker for anything that is musical so this was a must see for me, Hugh and Zac were a pleasant bonus. John isn't so keen on this type of film even though he has sat through many musicals I have watched at home and he did watch La La Land with me that he enjoyed to some extent.

For those that don't know The Greatest Showman is based on the imagination of P.T Barnum. Barnum created the world wide spectacle circus featuring all walks of life. The movie shows his struggle from being a no-one to a house hold name around the globe.

As it was released on boxing day we decided to book tickets to the gallery at Odeon. It costs a little more but you get the luxury of comfy seats, unlimited drinks, nachos and popcorn, plus a bar if you fancy a tipple. A trip to the cinema always feels better when you are in the gallery and its something we like to do at least a few times a year.

Now back to the film, I don't really like doing movie reviews because I know we all have our own opinions on movies and they can vary so much. We all like different genres and some of the movies I think are fantastic usually have 1 out of 5 or less than 10% on rotten tomatoes however I will give you my opinion.

I knew The Greatest Showman was going to be amazing but I honestly wasn't prepared for how fantastic it was. I absolutely loved every minute of it and time flew by. I was actually gutted when it ended, I could have sat through it all again.

Hugh Jackman is Barnum and we see how his dreams and visions become a reality as he goes from a tailors son to the creator of a world wide show P.T Barnum's Circus. It isn't all plain sailing but he is supported emotionally by his wife Charity played by Michelle Williams and financially by Philip Carlyle played by Zac Efron. We watch as Barnum brings together all walks of life including a bearded lady, an Irish giant and a black trapeze brother and sister duo. Ann played by Zendaya is an amazing trapeze artist however she feels the circus is the best place for her due to the colour of her skin. She falls in love with Philip and their duet whilst flying through the air on a trapeze left me with goosebumps.

The movie made me laugh, gasp (out loud which was a little embarrassing) and cry. It was not a good day for eye makeup as I had tears and mascara rolling down my face.

As well as a star studded cast it also has an amazing soundtrack. I actually loaded it on to Spotify on the way home so I could enjoy the songs again as the tunes were still in my head.

It was a lovely first alphabet date night, I loved the movie and I cannot wait to watch it again.
